I don't think QT got a solid performance out of Pitt. I've always felt that Pitt was the one false note in INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS. And I don't think he can get one out of Smith either. Smith will try to make it too damned...dignified, too respectable. You need someone with exploitation cred in this role, someone with a down-and-dirty streak. E.g., a young Bernie Casey (HIT MAN, 1972). There's really no one young enough that fits that today and the older ones, like Michael Jai White and Samuel L. Jackson, are too old now. So maybe an unknown or a non-American black actor.

Of course, I haven't read the script so I really don't know what's required for the character. I'm just responding to the Smith suggestion, that's all.

Well he's too big to play Django. Django is skinny.

Tyler Perry wouldn't even be interested unless the character wore a dress during the movie.

He could play both Django and Broomhilda

Quentin Tarantino has tried to tempt Lady Gaga into starring in his next movie by inviting Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt to meet the 'Judas' singer at the Cannes Film Festival.
Quentin Tarantino has tried to impress Lady Gaga into appearing in his next film.
The 'Pulp Fiction' director - who previously lent the 'Born This Way' singer his 'Kill Bill' Pussy Wagon for her 'Telephone' video - invited Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to meet Gaga, and she wasted no time asking the couple to attend her Cannes Film Festival gig last night (11.05.11).
A source told the Daily Mirror: "Tarantino knows Gaga's a big fan of Brad and Angelina.
"When she heard they were both in Cannes, too, she mentioned that she'd love to have them come and watch the show. So Quentin gave his pal Brad a bell to ask the couple to join them.
"It's no secret Quentin's been eyeing up Gaga for a role in one of his up-and-coming films. And now they're both in Cannes, he's keen to show off his movie star credentials."
The gig, which was broadcast on French TV show Le Grand Journal, reportedly cost £500,000 - and the 25-year-old 'Judas' songstress invited stars Uma Thurman, Johnny Depp and Kanye West to the after party.
However, Gaga only had eyes for Angelina, and has set out to become firm friends with her.
The source added: "As one fiery woman to another, Gaga's always been really into Ange and she thinks the glamorous location of Cannes is just the place for them to get pally."

Interesting

Spoiler:
Maybe Candie's sister? Though I was imagining her as being older, mid to late 30's. What other parts do they have for white women in this?

Is this from some internet translation program? "Quentin gave his pal Brad a bell"???

Please, no. I'm getting sick of the Gaga shitstorm as it is, I don't care to see her in a film. Let a real actress do the work.

Spoiler:
Or maybe the sister of the guy that marries Broomhilda during her storyline. But I imagine that, like Shoshanna's story, this might get a lot of it cut anyway.

From Wikipedia:

Agency William Morris Endeavor reported Christoph Waltz was cast to play a German bounty hunter, with Stacey Sher producing. Will Smith and Idris Elba are rumored to be up for the title role, while Tarantino regular Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz will play a wise, proud slave and a German bounty hunter named Dr. King Schultz, respectively.

Far from confirmed but the Waltz part seems pretty firm, with the William Morris tidbit.

PLEASE let it be Idris Elba. Smith is too big and polished a star to lend any credibility to that role...similar to Pitt's turn in Basterds.

I was thinking the same thing. Don't dislike Smith, but he'd be distracting in this. Idris Elba is an excellent actor.

OMFG, yes! Elba...he could do it. I know he could. He's got a great voice and visual presence that would a very interesting visual balance next to the German. In fact, I loved his role in Thor and wanted more of it cuz of Elba.

It's funny...I first knew of him via The Office. I liked him in that. Later saw RockNRolla, and that only stamped how cool he was.

I didn't read the script, but I like the potential casting of Elba. He was great in THOR.

Solid Snake 05-17-11 10:56 AM

re: Django Unchained - Quentin Tarantino spaghetti western

Well in the script he's a skinny guy...but...if you got Elba to play Django...I'm pretty sure he could look the part of Django in any other way besides the skinny...he could REALLY bring the attitude as well. That's the part that might take people off guard when they see this character.

For the role of...

Spoiler:
Calvin Candie, I can really see Powers Boothe. Especially from looking at his performance in Deadwood. Also John Goodman.
