I was thinking a little younger

Spoiler:
Guy Pearce or Danny Huston. If you want to go older, Nick Nolte. Or in a perfect world, Daniel Day Lewis. Calvin Candie has the potential to get a nomination, it's a very showy role.

Totally..he could bring the nasty disgustingness of it especially w/ that voice of his

I'd love to see Robert Duvall.

I dunno about that...it'd be very exciting to see it but...I haven't seen a bad guy version of him yet...might be too weird. Not that he couldn't do it...but for the sake of the character.

Well the character does have an adult child...so...we can't go too young.

Think Henry Fonda in Once Upon a Time in the West.

Check out Duvall in the Killer Elite for him in a bad-guy role; he plays it very cool and very dark.

re: Django Unchained - Quentin Tarantino spaghetti western

I shall. Duvall is getting up there w/ his age...VERY underrated actor I think. Well known and liked but underrated in terms of actual talent.

Interesting: Statham is in a remake of Killer Elite...has Statham, Clive Owen, Dominic Purcell, Yvonne Strahovski, and De Niro. What's that? 3 remakes w/ Statham in it? Damn...it's actually 6 remakes he's been in. And he also had uncredited cameo role in Pink Panther too.

Mean Machine (The Longest Yard)
The Italian Job
Death Race
13 (13 Tzameti)
The Mechanic
The Killer Elite

I was thinking it should be

Spoiler:
James Woods. Not only did he NAIL a racist bastard role in Ghosts of Mississippi, but he was famously offered the part of Mr. Orange in Reservoir Dogs and his agent turned it down....leading to the agent's immediate firing. I think he and QT are overdue for working together.

I also thought it was a remake but that Statham Killer Elite has a different story.

Yeah, it's based on a completely different book.

Too bad, I would have loved to see Statham in a remake of Peckinpah's film--in either role.

Tarantino fans are hungry for any information regarding his next film, Django Unchained. However, while deals are still being done, we’re all left to wonder how the film will be cast. We already know that Christoph Waltz will play a bounty hunter who mentors an escaped slave named Django and then teams up with him to free Django’s wife from an evil plantation owner. Rumors are now springing forth from the Twitter about casting for Django and the plantation owner, Calvin Candie. Yesterday, tweets from Idris Elba hinted (in the vaguest of terms) that he might be playing Django even though Will Smith was tipped as Tarantino’s top choice for the role. Today, Creative Screenwriting magazine Senior Editor Jeff Goldsmith tweeted

“Casting Rumor: Leonardo DiCaprio WILL play villian [sic] Calvin Candie in [Quentin] Tarantino‘s “Django Unchained”! QT wanted him for [Inglourious Basterds] & now has him!”
Regarding the rumors, let’s start with Elba. Here’s what he tweeted [via The Playlist] this weekend:

“Having one of the biggest meetings of my professional life today…meeting a very controversial director for a very controversial part.”
Django Unchained is supposed to be highly controversial because it reportedly pulls no punches with regards to slavery and racial politics. Elba then followed-up by tweeting:

"I wish I could tell you more but…in due time. On the plane to the destination of my fate…..ok…. a lil dramatic….destination of my life..?”
There are a variety of controversial roles for controversial directors, and Django Unchained certainly fits the bill. However, it may not be for the role of Django. After all, it was implied that the reason The Weinstein Company partnered with Sony Pictures on distribution was to appeal to Smith since he’s got a strong relationship with Sony. Personally, I would love to see Elba star in a Tarantino film, and I think there’s some desire among Tarantino’s fans to see Smith not get the part because of his insistence on re-writing scripts (even though no one re-writes Tarantino) and more importantly, his clean-cut image trying to fit into a controversial role.

Then there’s DiCaprio who was already mentioned in connection with the project. On May 6th, Variety reported that “Tarantino is believed to have written the role of Dr. Schultz for DiCaprio, but when he passed, it was modified for Waltz.” But it’s possible that Tarantino hasn’t given up on DiCaprio and has offered him Candie instead. However, DiCaprio may have a scheduling conflict with Baz Luhrmann’s 3D adaptation of The Great Gatsby.

The Playlist points out that Goldsmith was one of the first people to report that Will Smith was up for Django and there have certainly been discussions with DiCaprio’s camp about joining the film. Furthermore, if Smith passed and the production went for Elba, they would most likely need a movie star of DiCaprio’s caliber just as Basterds needed Pitt.

But this is all speculation. Nothing’s been announced, discussions are happening behind closed doors, and there are plenty of roles to cast. But we’re always super-excited for anything Tarantino does so we’ll be sure to keep you updated about Django Unchained.

I'm surprised there aren't any comments yet. I just can't see DiCaprio playing Candie. It just doesn't make sense but maybe Tarantino would re-write the part for him. I am very happy about seeing Elba talk about the role. He is one of my favorite actors and I'd love to see him in a Tarantino film.

dicaprio could easily play candie...and he'd knock it out of the park.

I pictured Candie as older, but I wouldn't complain about DiCaprio playing him.

I do like Elba for DJango

Elba fits the role better physical speaking. While he may be a bit bigger than Django he sure has teh darker complexion and the fiece commanding presence to give off those lines that Django has. Some of the stuff that is said to Django...also..he has a great serious face.

So with Waltz in...can we decide that he may have a supporting actor nominations already? Cuz the way it read...I can only imagine Waltz saying it w/ great sincerity and joy.

I get a feeling that Broomhilda might go to a young newcomer (Who has nothing to lose) but again, I'd like to see a familiar face in the part. Unfortunately, we haven't seen many black actresses in challenging roles lately. Only Kerry Washington seems to be the one to take chances (Playing transsexuals, foriegners or the handicapped)

Notice how much more beautiful people seem to be when next to QT :o

Kerry Washington is a great actress, and I agree. I'm a little tired of seeing Zoe Saldana everywhere, especially since she's rather mediocre.

Saw the original last night. Did QT confirm that Franco Nero would be in this one in a minor role? While skeptical about Lady GaGa, I can sort of understand Tarantino wanting to use her as she is of Italian heritage. Perhaps if they used her real name in the credits it wouldn't be as distracting.

Also, could someone please PM a link to the script, if it's there anymore..:D

i'm not exactly sure where her italian heritage comes into play...this isn't a remake of DJANGO and honestly has very little at all to do with it other than the name (much like INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS).

The Lady GaGa bit came from an article I read a few pages back. In terms of Italian heritage, I meant it in terms of him doing it like a Spaghetti Western (or Southern in his case) where he utilizes Italian names in the cast. Her real name is Stephanie Germanosa or something similar.

Quentin Tarantino has tried to tempt Lady Gaga into starring in his next movie by inviting Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt to meet the 'Judas' singer at the Cannes Film Festival.
Quentin Tarantino has tried to impress Lady Gaga into appearing in his next film.
The 'Pulp Fiction' director - who previously lent the 'Born This Way' singer his 'Kill Bill' Pussy Wagon for her 'Telephone' video - invited Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to meet Gaga, and she wasted no time asking the couple to attend her Cannes Film Festival gig last night (11.05.11).
A source told the Daily Mirror: "Tarantino knows Gaga's a big fan of Brad and Angelina.
"When she heard they were both in Cannes, too, she mentioned that she'd love to have them come and watch the show. So Quentin gave his pal Brad a bell to ask the couple to join them.
"It's no secret Quentin's been eyeing up Gaga for a role in one of his up-and-coming films. And now they're both in Cannes, he's keen to show off his movie star credentials."
The gig, which was broadcast on French TV show Le Grand Journal, reportedly cost £500,000 - and the 25-year-old 'Judas' songstress invited stars Uma Thurman, Johnny Depp and Kanye West to the after party.
However, Gaga only had eyes for Angelina, and has set out to become firm friends with her.
The source added: "As one fiery woman to another, Gaga's always been really into Ange and she thinks the glamorous location of Cannes is just the place for them to get pally."

Here's the quote about Lady GaGa.

I think that Gaga thing annoys me more than the possibility that NSYNC was supposed to be in Attack of the Clones.

Well the differene is that QT is a better director than GL. I don't care who he uses. I just care that he gets what he wants and that it works. I've no issue w/ Gaga being in it. Weird? Sure. I'm not a fan of her work, though she is talented..just not my style of music, but that doesn't give me a bitchy bias about her in a QT movie. I'm sure she won't look like Lady Gaga on stage...when you see her without all the LG stuff....looks like a regular gal.
