Simon West (Lara Croft, Con Air, The Generals Daughter) was hired to direct the sequel.

Re: The Expendables 2 (2012?)

from what I'm seeing he also did The Mechanic (Statham remake, also never saw it) and is currently shooting a film w/ Nicolas Cage about
A former thief frantically searches for his missing daughter, who has been kidnapped and locked in the trunk of a taxi.
which started filming in March called the Medallion...

So...theoretically...this guy COULD make a good solid film out of The Expendables cuz of Con Air...I hope so cuz that kind of direction would really work for this film.

West is a good B movie action director. So I think he's a good hire for what is essentially a B action movie. He's also done a few TV Pilots recently as well.

I did see The Mechanic and bought the BD. It's a really fun B action flick.

The Mechanic was a stylistic departure for West and I thought it was fun. I was actually surprised to see that he directed it.

Re: The Expendables 2 (2012?)

On June 30, 2011, Jean-Claude Van Damme confirmed his participation in the sequel.[64]
Some time ago you turned down an offer from Sylvester Stallone to star in his star-overloaded action blockbuster “The Expendables”. According to the media, and numerous reports it was because you did not like the character you were supposed to portray. As of now, “The Expendables 2” is among the most awaited films of the year. Looking back, do you regret your choice?

I will be in Expendables 2, I would have loved to be in part one as well, but my schedule didn't permit it.

Now we really need Seagal in this thing. Whoever the producer is that Seagal has beef with, needs to GTFO.

Re: The Expendables 2 (2012?)

I was a filmcon in London this past Saturday and Tom Sizemore was there doing signing and was telling people that he had signed on to be the main baddie in the sequel.

Also, if you ever met Sizemore it's an experience you will never forget.

Re: The Expendables 2 (2012?)

I heavily enjoyed the 1st film cuz it was essentially my childhood dream movie actually happening. But it has a shit ton of flaws that I'd want to be fixed for TE2. Namely....editing and colortiming...also...too much cg

Van Damme, Sizemore, and West? This might actually live up to the B movie potential of its predecesor.

Re: The Expendables 2 (2012?)

From Arrow in the Head:

We've all been anxious to see who will make up the cast of the upcoming sequel to THE EXPENDABLES, and now that the names are coming in, we aren't disappointed. David Varod, CEO of NU Boyana, a studio in Bulgaria where the film will be shot, revealed a number of exciting cast members to Novinite.

Starring in THE EXPENDABLES 2 are: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, John Travolta, Chuck Norris, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, and Bruce Willis. Talk about action-packed! This line-up could very well top the original.

Varod says that he believes that the sequel will be better than the first. Shooting begins in Bulgaria in September. Simon West (CON AIR, THE MECHANIC) directs from a script by David Agosto and Ken Kaufman. It's due to hit theaters on August 17, 2012.

The Expendables are back and this time it's personal! After Tool, the heart and soul of the Expendables, is brutally murdered on a mission, his comrades swear to avenge him. They're not the only ones who want blood. Tool’s beautiful young and wild daughter Fiona embarks on her own revenge mission, complicating matters when she is captured and ransomed by a ruthless dictator plotting to destroy a resistance movement. Now Barney and the Expendables must risk everything to save her and humanity.

************************************************

This guy's gotta be talking out of his ass, right? That cast list is too epic.

Re: The Expendables 2 (2012?)

The cast list of the original was "epic" too and it turned out to be Stallone and Statham running around for most of the movie with the others popping up here and there. Hell the two big "stars" turned out to be nothing more than cameos, and not very good ones at that.

I'll watch the sequel but I'm not going to get caught up in the epicness of the cast like I did with the last one.

the scene with Stallone, Willis, and Arnold was so embarrassingly bad, I turned it off and didn't finish the shitfest for another few days.

Gotta admit, that cast is impressive as hell. There's no way this could possibly suck unless a shitty hack director--
Simon West (CON AIR, THE MECHANIC) directs

Re: The Expendables 2 (2012?)

The Expendables "series" is becoming more of a gimmick in terms of "who's in the movie" rather than coming up with a good plot. So Part 2 has another dictator in most likely another Latin American country with another resistance .

Wow, Chuck Norris. I thought he was pretty much retired especially after the Walker Texas Ranger reunion movie bombed in the ratings 6 years ago. He hasn't done anything except Total Gym commericals and promote some MMA league he co-founded.

Huge Chuck fan. Hopefully his role is substantial.

Re: The Expendables 2 (2012?)

The Fiona angle guarantees it will suck. Only Hollywood would cram all these dudes in it and then have Jessica Biel take up screen time.
