Re: The Expendables 2 (2012?)
I watched The Expendables with some friends again last night and I'm totally cool with a new director and writer being on board for the sequel. Hopefully the new guy will drastically tone down the quick cutting*, darkness, and tight close ups of the fight scenes. A friend likes to have the captioning on and if you thought hearing some of the lines was clunky, you should try reading them.
Honestly, I'd be happy if this move let Stallone focus more of his creative energies on his long planned Edgar Allan Poe movie.
*One of my friends hadn't seen the movie before and at one point he was counting "one Mississippi" starting with each new shot and gave up when they wouldn't even last that long.

Re: The Expendables 2 (2012?)
All of my buds are from different walks of life, so I it not a bunch of "Movie hicks" hanging out watching the movie.
Cheesy is what made the movie as fun as it was - Stallone made it as a throw back to the 80's "Action Hero" movies.
But, you are entitled to you view of the movie, I would hate to read posts from everyone that agreed to my way of thinking - that would be boring.
Have a good day.

Re: The Expendables 2 (2012?)
Although itnended as a homage to 80's action, The Expendables was hardly that in its execution. The blueprints were there for a great 80's style action/adventure franchise but it was a clinky start at best. I still enjoyed it (upon second viewing and without any of the hype that killed my first viewing) but it can be vastly improved.

Re: The Expendables 2 (2012?)
I hated pretty much everything about the first film and I couldn't even enjoy it as a stupid popcorn movie. The fact that they are getting a new writer and director is a step in the right direction, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Not sure how I feel about the writer choice, though. I wish they would apply the same old school sensibility and get someone like Shane Black. As for directors, get a John McTiernan or Renny Harlin... sure they've had some clunkers lately but you need someone who understands those old school type of action films.

Curse all of you for speaking such things about Sly and the Expendables.

I liked the movie, but this is what was most disappointing to me. The Rockys, Rambos, etc...I never thought Stallone would have gone down that bs path.

...then again, perhaps Sly simply wants to pursue his painting career. He has an art exhibit currently on display in Switzerland.

^ I recall Sly had said it was to come out 6 months after the TC was released. The date has long since passed, right?

Gun shots, blow torch, grenades, stabbings, van damme kicks?
Nah. Just body shaking action lol
I was actually kinda shocked when I found out van damme made an appearance on this. I thought it was a joke, but there he is shaking his ass lol
