Can Kilmer's voice ever recover from this? I'm pretty ignorant on the subject. Is there surgery or any kind of treatment that could help him? I guess not since he is rich and if there was some kind of treatment, he probably would have gotten it. Really sad stuff.

I think Kilmer is Christian Scientist, or at least he was. So who knows if he's willing to go through with whatever procedures are available or not. I thought I read that he didn't initially get the treatment he needed for the throat cancer and that he denied that's what it was for the longest time.

Agreed, wow that was not at all what I was expecting to see (I initially watched the Larry King segment...and I was like...."he sounds fine, what's the problem?" They can pay respects to his character through the (somewhat obvious) funeral scene.

I think they discussed the death of Maverick's dad but it remained kind of a mystery so maybe the sequel will cover that?
Hard to believe this will come out 34 years after the original and there are probably generations of people that never saw it in the theater during the original theatrical run which makes you feel old.
One thing for sure I don't think Cruise can do all the stunts in this movie and no actor could get a license to fly a fighter jet for a movie.

Except that he DID fly one...just not an in-service military jet, which is illegal for a civilian to fly. Whether that's a bit of digital trickery in the movie or if (as I've read in a few places but can't confirm) Cruise actually ponied up and bought a retired military jet, who knows. All Paramount will say is that Cruise DID fly aircraft for the movie.

I think this will be one movie worth paying the extra money to see it in IMAX.

In theatres June 26, 2020.
After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose.”
Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.

That's what I was hoping - if they were able to mount the IMAX cameras on the planes, that would be a huge selling point. New trailer looks good... this is still another giant experiment to see if a popular 80's movie has a place in 2020. Along w Ghostbusters... we'll see!

It's fighter jet porn. I love it.
Wish they didn't show that funeral scene with the teary widow though. Will be pretty easy to figure out who is going to die in the movie.

Yep. And I’m 99% certain Maverick getting shot at towards the end of the trailer will be the finale right. No need to show the best stuff now.
