P.S. I think the "real" poster looks completely photo shopped and overall horrific.

It was such a missed opportunity not including a young Nick Fury in Captain America.

That doesn't really work well anymore. With the movie universe clearly set in the 2000s, if Nick was active during WWII he would be at least 80 years old. It works in the comics with the "sliding timescale" aspect, but it wouldn't work in the movie.

well you do know Fury has the Infinity Formula which helped out w/ his aging..so it'd be fine. But seeing a kid Fury would've been too stupid for me.

I'd say the movie itself is so well promoted otherwise, that pieces of toilet paper with the Avengers scribbled on them would work as well. Which is what the studio people who signed-off on the poster thought, "Hey! Word of mouth on this is so good we won't have to pay shit for a design."
At any rate, I've been a design professional since the late 70's, and sheeeshh is that a piss poor, gosh awful poster. Bad doesn't even begin to define the quality.

With all the design professionals available in LA, this is the best they could come up with?

It looks like a poster designed by some high school dropout, Drew Struzan wannabe (who will never come close), art student who lucked into an intern design position in the studio marketing dept... probably because they are the niece/nephew/daughter/son of the producer/director/studio head.

Put me in to the poster blows crowd. This is a huge film with years of anticipation since Iron Man came out 4 years ago. I think Marvel knows this. I'm really surprised by how amateurish it looks.

Not sure what the context is of that picture, I guess they're all Johannsoning.
Same reason DVD covers all look ugly to us. It does the job of letting someone who passes by the poster at a bus stop or a movie theater know there's a movie coming out with all these characters in it at a quick and easy glance.

Yeah the poster looks like the kind of shitty artwork studios tend to reserve for the BD/DVD artwork. Maybe that means the BD will have a kickass cover instead.
I didn't want a kid Fury but one that would use the Infinity Formula. But he'd still be younger in WWII because Fury still ages (slowly) despite the formula.

Are we certain that's the title? The credits at the bottom still state "Marvel's The Avengers". Maybe that's a tag line on the UK poster. Similar to the "Hang On" posters for Cliffhanger.
If the title actually is changed, there's speculation it was done to avoid confusion with the British spy TV series of the same name.

I can't say 100% for sure, but I don't think it is photoshopped. I have never seen anything to say that it wasn't real. Marvel outsourced the Avengers and Fantastic Four to Liefeld's Image Studios during that whole "Heroes Reborn" year in the late 90s, and I believe the Cap pic was done during that period.
Because a big green Hulk monster is easily confused with a British spy.

I hope they get a better or more simplistic poster. That looks so unprofessional it's pathetic.
