I don't approve. Whedon is one of the people that I really can't get into. I've tried with buffy and firefly, both really bored me as far as quality went film/direction wise. I'm sure story and everything is great, at least I hope it is with his fanbase, but I'm pretty much out at this point if he's officially directing. Hopefully it will fall through like all of his other projects.

Based on Serenity's worldwide box office total, that's not too many.

This is a risky pick in my opinion. The Avengers has been a film the Marvel fanatics have wanted for years and years. A large budgeted, big, epic comic book action adventure. And they're going to give the job to a guy who's directed a grand total of 1 movie that grossed a piddly $38 million WORLDWIDE.

I love Joss Whedon. I would make sweet, sweet love to the man.

That said, really Marvel? Really?

Don't like the idea of Whedon at the helm. I would love to see Darren Aronofsky or perhaps even Gore Verbinski in the director's chair.

While I liked Serenity and Dollhouse, this just seems like the wrong move. Favreau would be a better choice imo, but he's gonna do Cowboy's and Aliens instead, so I don't know. This could work.

I still don't believe it. This film will probably have one of the largest budgets ever and they're giving it to Joss Whedon? I don't think it'll happen.

Finally, a thread actually about Whedon that Groucho can make another unfunny jab in.

It's inevitable.

Speaking about budgets, anyone thinks this budget will top Avatars?

I dunno about that..but...for a film w/ much less CGI YES it'll be massive. I can't even imagine the budget. I'm guessing...250 million?

If it's filmed in 3D, which it probably will be, I can see the budget exceeding Avatar's.

Whedon's good at doing ensemble material, so I'm glad to hear this. Didn't know he had this many haters though.

Just so I have a frame of reference before questioning your tastes, what kinds of similar movies DID you like?

Not that I think JW is the best choice here, but really? "Incredibly lame?" I mean, I guess if you've only seen "bits" of Lord of the Rings, that could be considered lame, too.

"Lame" is the ultimate internet adjective.

How would that make it any more expensive?

Re: The Avengers - May 2012 - D: Joss Whedon

Don't understand why Whedon engenders so much hate, and I don't understand why Nolan has been essentially lionized after TDK. Things like structure, characterization consistency, and internal logic, etc have never been a problem for me in a project where Whedon had a hands on role (as opposed to work for hire writing). OTOH these things were a big problem for me with TDK and to a lesser extent BB.
And they're going to give the job to a guy who's directed a grand total of 1 movie that grossed a piddly $38 million WORLDWIDE.
By that standard George Lucas is 10x the writer/director Whedon is since Sith probably grossed at least that multiple.

I think he is the perfect choice to direct. He is great at storytelling and great with action scenes.

Sounds about as bad as letting that guy who made Daredevil make another superhero movie!

Terrible choice IMO. I can't wait for all the characters to speak in snarky one-liners, espousing hip self-aware dialogue that pasty fanboys will elevate and revere as "great character scenes".

Whoa whoa whoa...Whedon's not that bad. I like Firefly and Serenity. I wasn't blowning my load cuz of them but they were enjoyable and could've been better. And actually the episode that I thought was damn good was that final episode w/ the bounty hunter. I'm worried about it but...I'm not going to crash on it yet.

Whedon is gonna give Fillion a role since he lost out on Green Lantern. And Morena Baccarin is back in the limelight with that tv show "V". Those are my predictions.

I forgot to throw in Summer Glau as Wasp:
