Saw it on dvd. An awesome movie
Great music, great voice acting, good story, superb execution. One of my favorite films.
There is one thing I did not understand.

Watched the Blu last night, what a wonderful, fun movie. Very nice to see Dreamworks break out of their usual cookie cutter process.

This movie is by far the best Dreamworks movie ever made IMO, Transformers is as well but I see it as a Michael Bay film, not like this movie. The animation is smooth, and the characters aren't as stiff like in the Shrek series.

^ I like the shot of the whale during the parting of the red sea. and the fact that the film has a really good film score/songs.

I get a stupid grin on my face whenever Toothless comes on screen (well exept for the near stabbing scene and the end fight scene)

^I suppose if HTTYD had been made by Pixar it would have garnered much more attention due to that established brand name. But Dreamworks animated movies have been much more uneven in quality, even though many of them have been quite successful at the box office.
I think that, for many here, "Dragon" is a kid's movie they didn't get around to seeing in the theater and wouldn't likely pick up unless they have small children in the house. The fact that most adults who saw it really liked it just isn't well known.
For me, I am a big fan and consider this my favorite movie of the last several years, by a wide margin. But it is hard for me to put my finger on just why; I guess I'll just call it a kid's animated movie with "heart". I've done my share of proselytizing for this movie: I took a couple of friends to see it in April and they loved it. I mentioned it to other friends and family and expect to lend out the DVD from my BD/DVD combo set.
But here at DVD Talk, unless one hangs out in the box office threads, the great legs of HTTYD is mostly unknown. I guess everyone is focused on Transformers 3 or Dark Knight 2 or something.
FWIW, How to Train Your Dragon remains 98% "fresh" at rottentomatoes.com. How many movies can match that?

For those who've seen the movie, did you pick up on how the animators customized the Dreamworks logo:
I didn't spot that until I watched the BD commentary and looked for it.

I watched this ON Demand yesterday evening with my daughter and it's probably on my top 5 list for 2010. It was hard watching though because we were so engrossed in Toothless' fate that we were completely anxious and spazzing just about the whole time. At one point I told her that we should just turn it off because I couldn't take it!
I don't think I've ever seen a cuter animated character and it was an amazing movie!

Its somewhat of an action movie
The flight sequences are awesome.
I'd say this is an action movie with heart.
Was anyone reminded of the Asterix comics by the animations?
The scene where Stoic is talking to Gobber and Gobber's fake tooth comes out reminded me of Asterix.
I too was a bit hesistant to see this movie -- dragons? Kid movie I thought. ET again. But this movie is quite adrenaline pumping.

The original TV advertisements for the movie looked incredibly generic -- both visually and plotwise. It also looked overly cutesy. Hard to give attention to a movie if you flat out have zero interest in it.
Odd though that the actually generic and overly cutesy Toy Story 3 has a rabid following on these forums, but then original products always have a tougher time.

And if you watched the Olympics, you probably had a hatred for the movie well before it came out.

I think it has to do with how the movie was advertised.

While i'm not surprised Toy Story 3 had far more interest, this movie to me was far better.
