I don't know, $2.78 Billion dollars for 1 movie is going to be tough to match. Not saying it won't happen, just that it'll be tough to reach those heights.

Yeah, I'm guessing it doesn't hit that. The first movie was also the showcase of what 3D could do, and it seems like most people have been there and done that by now.

Then 2 biggest box-office revenue movies of all time are both by Cameron. I'm wagering he may hit it again. I'm also wagering he'll be the only one who can as well. Not even a new Star Wars movie got close.

I watched it once on BD and would again(my daughter wants to see it), but I no longer have my projector hooked up. I just can't settle for watching this on a tv.

why would it take 3 years between 2 & 3 if they are all filming back to back to back to back and 1 & 2 only one year apart?

re: Avatar 2 (2021, D: Cameron) S: Worthington, Saldana

11 years between the 1st and 2nd movie. That's pretty close to the 16 year gap between Godfather 2 and 3.

Is anyone going to be excited for a new Avatar movie in 2020? If this came out in 2011 or 2012, then maybe, but 11 years later?

Shooting 4 movies in a row along with editing and post production. That's got to be the longest time commitment one director has stayed on a single movie. Cameron's going to be exhausted. And they think he will have the time to write a new Terminator movie during that period?

I just don't see how you get four sequels out of the original. Personally the first is pretty cool visually but the film really didn't do anything for me. I like Cameron but will probably pass on these.

It's like Terminator and Terminator 2. Nobody thought that T2 was going to exceed the first.

I wouldn't sleep on Cameron. I think Avatar is a fantastic movie but if he's putting so much passion and work into this, it has to be huge when it arrives.

This entire project is one hell of a risk for Fox. They better hope for substantial return.

Zero risk for them. It will be like printing money.

Judging by this thread there are two certainties. 1. This is going to be the biggest bomb in history, not a single person will show up, and it will bankrupt Fox. And 2. These will be the biggest blockbusters of all time giving Cameron the number 3, 4, 5, and 6th spots on the Top Films of All Time list.

Re: Avatar 2 (D: Cameron) S: Worthington, Saldanas

I don't think it's a sure thing that a second film will flop terribly but banking on four films doing well is risky in my opinion. To me a wait and see approach would be better but considering how that goes with Cameron who knows how long it would take if the second film does well and they were to wait for him to do another. I just don't think the first film is one that left a bunch of people begging for more necessarily. Audiences may or may not have any interest in a second entry after eleven years. Beyond just the time span between the sequels like I said before I don't understand how there's realistically enough story for four more films either. I barely even recall the first film's story.

Does Fox care? I imagine JC just walks around with cash fanning out and leaving a trail behind him.

Story is the guy's pitch for an Alien sequel was that he wrote "Alien" on the board, and added "$" in place of the s.

Just remember the Furious 7 made 1.5 BILLION and part 8 is getting close in ONE week; there is no fucking way Avatar 2 will bomb. Regardless of what anyone on this board thinks.

It will not bomb but that doesn't mean that it will be any good or that as many people are waiting with bated breath for it as Cameron thinks there are.

That's irrelevant. It's a cash cow. Story can be mediocre as long as the visuals remain revolutionary and have depth, which they will.

It's all about getting assess in seats. $$$$$$$
