Lol, and they had the perfect date in between the Star Wars Episode films. I understand the long term vision and plan...but, time to put some points up on the board Jim!

Incoming announcement that Han Solo is pushed back to December. Disney probably doesn't want to release that 3 weeks after Infinity War anyway.

Re: Avatar 2 (2018, Cameron) S: Worthington, Saldana

“Well, 2018 is not happening. We haven’t announced a firm release date. What people have to understand is that this is a cadence of releases. So we’re not making Avatar 2. We’re making Avatar 2, 3, 4 and 5. It’s an epic undertaking. It’s not unlike building the Three Gorges dam. (Laughs) So I know where I’m going to be for the next eight years of my life. It’s not an unreasonable time frame if you think about it. It took us four-and-a-half years to make one movie and now we’re making four. We’re full tilt boogie right now. This is my day job and pretty soon we’ll be 24-7. We’re pretty well designed on all our creatures and sets. It’s pretty exciting stuff. I wish I could share with the world. But we have to preserve a certain amount of showmanship and we’re going to draw that curtain when the time is right.”
Well, at least he's confident. He'll be over 70 by the time this thing's wrapped up.

I'm curious what kind of hit they would take if the sequels fail to meet expectations. Let's say the second one is a modest hit because people are curious 10 years later. But if Avatar 3 makes less, and then 4 make less than 3 and so on, I guess they have no choice but to release them if they are filming them so close together?

This whole thing is just preposterous.

Anybody else think he is milking money out of investors and not a single frame will ever exist?

That's depressing.

I know the Avatar movies will have their place in film history but being a fan of old school Cameron I can't help but feel it's a lot of years of wasted potential.

Honestly, I'd be fine if we never get another Avatar movie, or another James Cameron movie. He's so far up his own ass that he hasn't made a movie worth watching in 23 years.

re: Avatar 2 (2021, D: Cameron) S: Worthington, Saldana

I think he's just concerned with making something special. He's passionate about making his own Lord of the Rings-level series. I think that's his real goal here. I think he enjoys movies the same way we do. And he doesn't want to release a set of Avatar movies that disappoint. During the process, he doesn't want to end up with a set of quickly forgotten movies.

Avatar is solid entertainment, highlighted by Cameron's usual attention to technical details. I think the world that's been created has the potential to be something special that we all remember for a long time.

I can see that. I'm sure he's well aware of the complaints levied against the original as well and wants to avoid that pitfall again.

I didn't have any problems with the technicalities of Avatar, just the script and acting.

re: Avatar 2 (2021, D: Cameron) S: Worthington, Saldana

http://heroichollywood.com/zoe-salda...equels-summer/

It’s been eight years since the first Avatar broke box office records, but it looks like James Cameron’s epic franchise might finally be coming back soon. Zoe Saldana confirmed to ScreenRant that she will start shooting her scenes for the Avatar sequels this summer.

“We haven’t shot it yet. Anything I can tell you about Avatar 2,3,4,5? We’re going to start this summer. Late summer, and it’s probably going to go all the way until early next year shooting, and I’m really excited about it.”

A huge reason why it has taken so long for Avatar 2 to start production is that James Cameron is attempting to take on all 4 sequels as one huge project rather than individual films. Because of this, Avatar 2 has slipped from a 2016 release, to December 2018, and now it has been pushed even further back. Thankfully it looks like the films are now really getting started since filming dates are already set for Saldana.

We know that the original Avatar began filming in April of 2007, and the film wasn’t released until December 2009. While a late 2019 date is possible for Avatar 2, it could be even further back than that since the other sequels will still be in the process of shooting while Avatar 2 is in post-production. It’s impossible to know how something this ambitious will work, but James Cameron has earned our trust at this point.

I found it just the opposite: quite memorable, and I'm looking forward to at least the next installment, if it ever gets here. We'll see about what's beyond.

I don't really care for Worthington in his bigger starring roles. I'm much more impressed with his acting when he takes on smaller, more subtle roles like in Everest and Hacksaw Ridge.

This is the very definition of a boondoggle.

I can foresee Avatar 2 grossly underperforming if it even comes out at all. I don'tknow what will happen afer that, if the sequels will be canceled, or if they'll just take combine 3, 4, and 5, into a single movie, but I really don't see this getting all the way to five movies.

Avatar was kind of thing in 2008, but I just don't think anyone really gives a rat's ass about it now.

I think they may be hoping that Pandora in Disney World keeps interest alive.

Keep in mind, the first film grossed nearly 2 Billion internationally...and that market has done nothing but grow since. I have no doubt he's keeping a very broad worldview appeal in mind for these...because he knows that's where the big $$ will come from. The films could skip the U.S. entirely and will still be financially successful.

Does anyone give a rats ass about James Cameron movies prior to release? I mean, Titanic looked like melodramatic crap that could only muster up a $28m opening, and Avatar looked like big budget Smurfs in Ferngully.

I very seriously doubt that. I think that the fan base for the first movie is still there and sequels are gonna be a license to print money. I thought the first movie was a technical marvel, however its a movie i rarely revisit. The story was soooooo cliched and retrodden ground that i find some of the set pieces enjoyable, but i could not give a shit about any of the characters.

Wait for a first trailer of the sequel to hit the net and then the reveal of the new advances Cameron has made in the technology behind the movie and it will once again be front and center in the public eye. I would not be surprised if the sequel actually eclipses the box office of the first.

Global Box Office being what it is now this will easily beat the previous movie.
