Re: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)
They may be returning the same writing team, but the swap of Verbinski for Marshall is a massive step down. Last I'd heard, Gore V. had left the film to direct BioShock, but now IMDB has Fresnadillo as director. It's a shame to lose a talented director without having him heading up another blockbuster.

Good, now they can get a main female lead with boobs.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)
Keira is hot, but I'm glad her and Orlando aren't in this movie. They shouldn't have had much to do in the last two, if they were to be involved at all.

Now, if it was the guy who directed Elf doing Iron Man, then I'd be worried. ;) |

I'm curious to see how Marshall does, as well. Verbinski did a great job with the first three, but there's no reason to shackle him to the series.

Wonder if they'll try to get Zoe Saldana back...
I quite liked her somewhat small role in the first film, and think Anamaria would make a good foil for Jack. |
Re: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)
Probably not since she's now serving as the communications officer on the Enterprise! :-)

Getting Geoffrey Rush back as Barbarossa is key! Him and Depp bickering were the highlight of the first three movies for me.

Eh, this is very different step for Marshall, and I'm curious to see what he'll do with it. Sometimes this works out well. Christopher Nolan wasn't a blockbuster filmmaker when he did the Batman franchise, and look at how that turned out.
Now, if it was the guy who directed Elf doing Iron Man, then I'd be worried. ;) Outside of Pirates, Verbinski has shown his chops with the Weatherman (one of my favorite unnoticed films of the past few years) and the remake of the Ring (not a classic, but surprisingly good given how remakes of Asian properties usually turn out). As for Marshall, while Chicago has its fans, Memoirs and Nine were both disasters despite excellent pedigrees. I can't see why anyone would expect anything resembling creativity or energy in Marshall's direction of an action- and CGI-heavy film. |
Re: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)
Some news:
"Penelope Cruz is in negotiations to join Johnny Depp and sail the seven seas in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," the fourth installment of the movie series being directed by Rob Marshall. Cruz's character details are also being kept secret, though she is to be Sparrow's foil and equal in many ways." Cruz could be fun to watch. |

Cruz in a corset? I'm in!

Cruz is definitely positive casting news if she does indeed sign on.

That's a stroke of genius. Inspired casting indeed.

Please let this happen. Marshall is a bit of a disappointment, but if they can get Depp, Rush, Cruz, and McShane in a story minus Will and Elizabeth, then I will be there the first night! |
Re: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)
Is this going to be a prequel or sequel?
|
Re: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)
It's going to be "flash sideways".
|
Re: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)
 to McShane's casting.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)
I saw this in the elevator at work and let out a "C*CKSUCKER!" when I saw this...this would be great. Good thing I was alone in the elevator :-P
