So in the end Peter will solve the mistery of his parent's death by finally noticing a piece of evidence that was in his possession the whole time?

Ugh. Why does Spider-Man need some prolonged conspiracy to make things compelling? Isn't a kid getting radioactive spider powers enough?

This is why I stopped reading comics. Too often stretched, complicated and mucked up just to pad things out.

I'll take action on that.

Unless it only makes 100mil it's an easy three pics.

I know this means almost nothing, but I was hanging out with my cousin recently and he was telling me that his friend's gf has been working on this film. She told him it's going to suck horrendously.

A piece of evidence that conveniently we are unaware of until the end of the trilogy, that he had withheld for personal reasons. Hey that's kind of like revealing that Sandman killed Uncle Ben in Spidey 3. Dammit.

Norman Osborn didn't kill Peter's father. He IS Peter's father!

At this point, I wouldn't put it past anyone involved in this project to do something that stupid.

Honestly, I just think it's silly to reboot a franchise that's only 12 years old. I think the average moviegoer who starts seeing previews for this is going to be confused and/or disappointed. Just my opinion, though.

And that is one reason it will not make that much box office here in the US. I bet it opens around 70-80 mill then tops out below 200 mill. This movie is going to need big overseas money to keep the series going.

Re: Spider-Man (2012, Marc Webb)

Spider-Man is Marvel's biggest property. The "big three" comic book characters have always been Batman, Superman, and Spider-Man. There isn't really much chance of this movie failing at the box office unless it gets extremely bad word-of-mouth reviews.

It's not going to fail, but it's not going to be a blockbuster smash hit, either.

How would you fill the gap before a reboot to retain the rights? They have to put out a film.

Spider-man 3 had a budget at $260M. The Amazing Spider-man is less than half of that. Actually, it is less than the original Raimi film of $140M. Sony has not had much success at the box office in the past 5 years. They couldn't afford a Raimi Spider-man 4 as there have been a lot of belt tightening since Spider-man 3. Besides, they're rolling the dice on a much more expensive Men in Black 3.

Just a sequel with a different cast. It's not that complicated.

This. Most of the complaints about this reboot are that it's yet another origin story.

There is more buzz for just about every other big movie this summer than this one. Where is all the support for it?

I really can't believe that it is basically getting the 4th of July all by itself.

That is going to be a huge problem for this film. My son has loved all the other Spider-Man movies but has no interest in this. He can't wait for Batman and the Avengers etc...

Real scientific poll I know; but no one I know has any interest in seeing this. This movie should be a big fricken deal!! I love the Lizard character in comics but I can't even begin to describe how ill it makes me feel to see what they have done to it. Nothing about this movie makes me want to see it (other than the non organic webshooters) and sadly I know I will not be alone on that.

I will check it out on blu someday.

I think they want to avoid this turning into the Schumacher Batman films and rather start over again as the Nolan films.

Re: Spider-Man (2012, Marc Webb)

What these people said = the opinion of the masses. People aren't interested in the franchise being rebooted with another origin story when they're already invested with the first trilogy still fresh in their minds. It's a horrible, horrible idea, and really makes no sense at all...it just reeks of a studio thinking they can throw Spiderman in a movie and it be a massive success. This won't be.

Problem there is that the last Schumacher Batman movie was a flop at the box office, and that there was almost 10 years (is my math right there? I think it is) between that and the first Nolan movie. The Spiderman trilogy yielded three successful movies and was generally enjoyed by the masses, and they're just rebooting it out of nowhere. It's the same reason a Transformers reboot would've been stupid to do right now - there's no logical reason for it.

Looks like 8 between B&R and Begins. 5 between Spider-man 3 and the reboot.

The biggest difference is (despite the hate on this forum) SM3 was fucking huge. B&R was a fucking bomb across the board. You don't need to reboot a franchise that just came off a $350 million dollar third entry (and just barely missed surpassing SM2). Worldwide SM3 destroyed SM2.

Even if they paid no acknowldgement to the first 3 films, they didn't have to start from the beginning again. Spider-Man could be like James Bond.

Agreed, I wish they took that approach.
