Re: Spider-Man (2012, Marc Webb)

After seeing Social Network this past weekend, I am more keen on Andrew Garfield's casting. Don't know if he's right for this role, but he has proven to me he is a capable actor. Stone's resemblance to the MJ of the comics is uncanny. Still , I am skeptical overall. I just feel it's too soon for a reboot. If they cast the girl from Glee as Gwen Stacy, then it would seem like they are casting for name/face recognition as opposed to who's right for the role. While it wasn't true when production started, by the time shooting starts all three leads will be considered hot commodities.

blame sony for being greedy in wanting another spider man, or blame Sam Raime for not caving into the demands Sony wanted for a 4th movie

The writing was also off. Except for a throwaway "tiger" line, MJ in the movies wasn't written remotely like her comic book counterpart. Yes, Emma Stone has a very MJ feel to her (beyond just her amazing looks) but it also depends on wether the character is written correctly this time around.

Yeah. This girl is a party gal. A girl that Peter should have no chance to be with. She's the one that has to change as a character to be with Peter.

Emma Stone has been cast as Gwen Stacy, and will go back to her blonde roots for the role.

Glad to see them go with Gwen, but what the heck is with the red heads as blondes.

Huh. That announcement was unexpected. But in the long run, Gwen was there first. Maybe it's her time in the light.

With Stone playing Gwen Stacy, that's a strong indication The Green Goblin will be the villain again.

I'd say there's a strong chance he'll be the villain again at some point, but probably not in this movie.

I don't know...
Spoiler:

They would almost have to do the "Death of Gwen Stacy" this first reboot movie, and the Goblin is pivitol in that.

They can always just have another villain do it.

They would never do that, it's such an iconic Spider-Man story.

Amber Heard was high on my list to play Gwen Stacy.

Don't blame Sony. If they don't continue making Spider-Man movies the rights will revert back to Marvel/Disney. The original cast/crew can't stay together forever and if you're Sony would you rather keep having to shell out more and more money just to keep the cast consistent (with each sequel their salary demands are sure to escalate) while having to maintain storyline continuity, or would you rather pay a new cast a fraction of the salary and be free to create a new story that doesn't have any limitations as to where it can go. Can anyone think of a franchise that has had more than 3 sequels that has been successful maintaing a consistent continuity while at the same time maintaing quality?
