The more I think about the two films, the more I like Sherlock Holmes and the less I like Avatar, which was pretty, but so darn predictable and badly acted. I may even return to the theater for another Sherlock showing.

Saw this over the weekend and enjoyed it about a hundred percent more than I expected to. Lots of fun, and significantly more true to the "real" Holmes then the trailers led me to believe. I'll pick up the BD when it's released.

Hm, I must say I'm still intrigued by this but these negative reviews don't help. It seems like exactly what I thought would go wrong has gone wrong. But, on the other hand, Law is underrated IMO, I like Downey and I'm willing to give Ritchie at least some sort of a free pass since I liked Snatch/Lock Stock so there's a 100% chance that I'll check this out at some point.
After getting through your guy's impressions though, looks like VOD or rental is a better approach to this one. Actually passed on an XMas day showing of this mainly because I had apprehensions about the quality of it but my family that went gave it glowing reviews.

Believe the naysayers. But I suspect that if you catch a 20-30 minute nap during this movie, you might have a better opinion of it than I did after actually watching the entire uninspired movie.

I nodded off for a good 5 minutes in the middle of Avatar. Had a much better time at Sherlock Holmes.

I do have to admit that my eyes closed a couple of times in the first 30 minutes but I think it was more do to the fact that it was my second movie of the day and I was tired. Once I sat up and concentrated on staying awake I loved every minute of it.

And, personally, I wouldn't trust my family's taste on anything.

I thought it was okay. **1/2 out of five.
Jude Law was great - as was his chemistry w/ RDJ.
The story was underwhelming and too long. It seemed much longer than two hours.

really enjoyed this. very entertaining and very enjoyable. loved the character, all the scientific reveals. RDJ was superb and the rest of the cast as well. even liked Jude Law who i never really cared for.
just done excellently and a true and welcomed departure for Ritchie. really set up the next one well with the only name i knew from the Sherlock Holmes lore.
could someone please tell me what Holmes last line of the movie was. could not figure it out for the life of me?

Lock, Stock..., Snatch, Revolver, Rock 'n'... were not made for a wide audience at all. yes, SH had his visual touches and slight nuisance in dialogue, but much more "Hollywood" then Lock, Snatch or Rock 'n'. not as twisty and a little more conservative. i thought that was the obvious, prevailing thoughts with this one. not to mention this is by far his highest domestic take then probably all his previous combined.

well I finally caught this on Bluray and I thought it was a snooze fest. I had a hard time staying awake throughout the movie. There were a couple fun scenes but it felt very lifeless. from the way it was shot and presented. I thought it was a blah introduction to these characters and world.
Big disappointment for me.

Yeah, I'd like to see who they cast as Moriarty; Daniel Day Lewis would be great.
I really liked this version but I would hope they don't have Downey mumble as much; sometimes the sound was so soft I couldn't make heads or tails of what he was saying.
