Yeah, the casting of Moriarty has had some big names thrown around.
I would love to see Daniel take it, rumours indicate he has and may be filming it now.

I agree that Daniel Day Lewis would be an ideal Moriarty -- but I don't this being the kind of role he'd take. Blockbuster sequel?

Agreed. Ledger was not quite up to par with Lewis, but you have to put into account the age difference. Heath Ledger died at 28 with 2 Oscar nominations. Lewis received his first nomination when he was 33, and his second when he was 37. Ledger proved with The Dark Knight that he had the ability to transform into a character, almost become unrecognizable, much like what Lewis did with Plainview (and other characters). Given more time and experience, I'd say that Ledger would definitely had made it to Lewis' caliber.

do you still watch The Dark Knight daily?
i'm sorry but Heath's resume lacks quality and consistancy.
10 Things I Hate About You
The Brothers Grimm
The Order
A Knights Tale
The Patriot
a bunch of mediocre films, with mediocre performances to boot, in a rather small filmography.

I'd agree Blu Man's statement but I think the relevance of Oscar nomination is irrelevant and rather pointless to bring up cuz they don't prove anything.
AnonomusBob15: Yes...his start is rather crappy but his quality as an actor was growing well. Also..you forgot Brokeback Mountain...he did pretty good in that one...among others...

Exactly, "small filmography." Whether or not you liked The Dark Knight or not is irrelevant, you can't deny that Ledger transformed himself into that character, and that he was obviously a very talented actor. You mentioned his bad performances, are you just purposefully ignoring his good ones?
Monster's Ball
The Four Feathers
Lords of Dogtown
Ned Kelly
Brokeback Mountain
I'm Not There
The Dark Knight
For being 28 he had a pretty damn good resume, and I have no doubt it would have continued to grow.
Back on topic, my point was that actors more prone to do smaller or more award type films have done blockbusters before. That's all.

The Four Feathers
Ned Kelly
all i'm saying is his celebrity blew up with his first movie, and he did what he did, and it did not impress me. I guess I judge an actor based on most of their work. Monsters Ball isn't a particularly great movie, IMO, and he's barely in it. Candy, Dark Knight, I'm Not There and Brokeback Mountain were his best performances, and that's all i'll say.

finally saw this on BD. Amazon had it for cheap. I enjoyed it but the plot had a few holes that I noticed a long the way. Wtf happens to that Order? Are they arrested right there at that place they were at? So if the If it wasn't the supernatural then what was the situation w/ the girl at the ritual? I felt the story needed to be tighter as a story. I did heavily enjoy it though. Not a perfect film, could be trimmed here and there, solid acting from Downey and Law though. I very much liked most if not all of their interactions. Holmes...may have been a bit too cocky...but it was enjoyable.

I dunno why you guys are still debating the casting of Moriarity. Jared Harris nabbed that role ages ago. And, yes, they've been filming for some time already. Heck, I'm surprised they're not already in post production.
EDIT: Just noticed those posts were from 2010.

Seemed odd to keep discussing the sequel here, so here's a new thread: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/movie-talk/...ie-2011-a.html
