Was that Optimus Prime as a jet?

Solid Snake 02-06-11 08:22 PM

Re: Transformers 3 Announced

no, you can see an untransformed OP flying...but he does have a ....jet pack thing? Something akin to what he may have had in TF2?

RocShemp 02-06-11 08:25 PM

Re: Transformers 3 Announced

Dunno about Prime having a jetpack but it was awesome to see him slice through those Decepticons at the end. Oh and I believe that was Lazerbeak early in the spot.

Oh, whatever. I'm waiting for reviews before seeing this one.

Honestly, what insight do you really expect to get from the reviews? How different could this one be from the previous two?

I dunno...better? Better than TF2?

Re: Transformers 3 Announced

Since Prime has his trailer in TF3, Im guessing his Trailer converts into the Jet, or something

The first movie got 57% on Rotten Tomatoes (which I think is too low), and the second got 20% (which is too high). If TF3 ends up anywhere above 50% I'll see it.

I can imagine the reviews praising it as better than the second film. Maybe even better than the first, as the plot suggests action on the moon, which could make for some great imagery. The only thing that interests me about it right now is the rumored opening scene.

Looks awesome.

Even though Tranformers Revenge of the Fallen was a mixed bag for me, I'm still there for the 3rd movie.

Loud action movies with lots of explosions and especially giant robots are all part of the summer movie-going experience for me. :D

The 2nd movie made a shit-ton of money, so he doesn't give a fuck about us whining "fans".

What was with the dude jumping out of the plane? That looks like a classic Bay moment.

I dunno, I think the trailer looks sweet. I don't expect anything more or less than a popcorn flick.

+1

The second one may have a shit plot (actually, that might be insulting to shit plots) but I can't deny that it had great action and was actually better paced than the first one (which inexplicably/unforgiveably ground to a halt once the Autobots made their grand entrance). So I'm hoping for a plot that is as good or better than the first and pacing/action that is as good if not better than the second.

Mercifully, Shia Labouf had only two shots (and Jason Statham's girlfriend had only one shot) dedicated to him in the spot whereas the robots were front and center and the soldiers a distant (yet awesome) second. Hopefully that's the formula for the actual movie.

I want giant robots blowing shit up and it looks like this is what I am going to get. If I wanted great acting and a plot I will go see Black Swan.

that hack and slash bit at the end of the superbowl spot looks like a "megatron must be stopped...no matter the cost" moment

He says he has:

“Look, the movie had some good things in it and it was entertaining and it did very well, but it also failed in some key ways. I learned from it. And now with this third movie we’re going back to basics and I absolutely believe this is going to be a much better film than the second one...“I’m trying,” he said, “to make up for movie two.”

We shall see.

I'm hoping that's true. it'd be awesome to see Prime and Ironhide (who was previously rumoured to die in this installment) go down in a Charge of the Light Brigade fashion.

Re: Transformers 3 Announced

I remember reading Bay's remarks when The Island became his first flop, and it really seemed to upset him. This is a guy comfortable in his own skin to ignore being panned by the critics, but seems to really care what movie-going audiences think. It's hard to get a sense of disappointment from the public when a movie makes as much money as did Revenge of the Fallen. So, at the risk of cementing my status as a Bay apologist, I think it's pretty encouraging that he's even aware of the perceptions about the last movie. I, too, look forward to some robot-on-robot violence.

Along those lines: does anyone else think Optimus Prime has spent some time with Barry Bonds?

No but you want a plot that's not stupid to the point where it's bad enough that it's not really good at propelling you to the action.

Please...please just kill Hot Rod in some spectacular fashion. My little 8 yr. old self from 1994 wants his child back w/ an Optimus Prime that isn't killed by some stupid ass bitch Autobot getting in the way of two Adult robots fighting to the fucking death.

That shot almost makes me want to see the film even if I hated the first two.

I just want to see Bay direct a 90-minute film called Money Shots where its 90 minutes of just a montage of action set pieces and after every big moment, you have Martin Lawrence pop in to say that "shit just got real."
