Your Favorite Hong Kong fight scene?

Or just in case to hit all boundaries I want to hit are those fight scenes made by a Chinese (including HK) production? I wanted to put best HK fight scene but I thought I'd rather see a more diverse list of films. You never know...a clip here or there can introduce you to a very cool or crappy film that you'd appreciate to see. I've been watching a lot of classics recently: Enter The Dragon (which is a co US production if I remember correctly), The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, The Young Master, Police Story, and etc. Within that I've seen sooo many great fight scenes. I'm always amazed by modern HK films that bring great fights considering, at least I think, they kinda tend to be rare at times as compared to it's cinema's past.

Again:
What's your favorite Hong Kong/Chinese fight scene?

SPL: Sha Po Lang aka Kill Zone (US title), it's Donnie Yen vs. Wu Jing

Once Upon a Time in China II Jet Li vs. Donnie Yen

Drunken Master I dream of one day we westerners to get a decent DVD of this one without hiccups in Audio or dubtitles...one day.

Re: Your Favorite Hong Kong fight scene?

I've seen so many of these that I can't say I have a favorite. And I'm probably forgetting some of the very best. I addition to the ones you cite, I'd add:

IRON MONKEY (1993) - the final fight with Donnie Yen (as Wong Fei Hung's dad) and YuRong Guang (as Iron Monkey) vs. the bad guy (I forget the actor's name) where they have to balance on and jump around on wooden posts that are gradually burning up.

8-DIAGRAM POLE FIGHTER (1983) has Gordon Liu and his Shaolin compadres, using the 8-diagram pole techniques, taking on a bunch of bad guys in a huge temple. Some of the action involves leaping around on stacks of coffins. Directed by Lau Kar Leung, who's also in the film. (See also HEROES OF THE EAST and LEGENDARY WEAPONS OF CHINA, also directed by Lau for Shaw Bros.)

FIST OF LEGEND (1994) - Jet Li plays Bruce Lee's role in this remake of FIST OF FURY/CHINESE CONNECTION. I can't remember who he fights at the end (Billy Chow?), but it's a doozy.

BOXER FROM SHANTUNG (1972) - Shaw Bros. classic in which Chen Kuan Tai takes on a whole tavern full of ax-wielding thugs, with lots of physical damage to the set, including a collapsing staircase. Based on a true story.

BROKEN OATH (1977) - Angela Mao has lots of good fights in the film. She even takes on Sammo Hung in one. (Well, she actually fought him in lots of films back then.) See also WHEN TAEKWONDO STRIKES (1973) for more great Angela Mao action.

QUEEN BOXER (1974) - an actress named Chia Ling (renamed Judy Lee for the English dub release) takes on a tavern full of thugs in an unofficial sequel to BOXER FROM SHANTUNG, but not made by Shaw Bros. (Chia Ling plays the sister of Chen Kuan Tai's character.) This was Chia Ling's first film and she's second only to Angela Mao as the reigning kung fu diva of the 1970s. Her big fight scene here is quite intense, as if she's really fighting for her life. I thought of this scene when I watched a similar scene in CROUCHING TIGER in which Zhang Ziyi fought a bunch of guys as if it was a ballet class.

The hospital shootout in John Woo's Hardboiled. (And one of the best tracking shots in any film ever, IMO.)

Re: Your Favorite Hong Kong fight scene?

The last fight in 'Fearless - Director's Cut'. The end of it makes it near perfect.

Jet Li/Donnie Yen in 'Hero'. Amazing sequence there.

Re: Your Favorite Hong Kong fight scene?

Jet Li versus the Japanese school (including a ball grab/lift) in Fist Of Legend.

Donnie Yen versus Colin Chou in Flashpoint.

For more Jing Wu goodness, check out the last fight in Drunken Monkey. You get the added bonus of Lau Kar Leung kicking loads of ass.

Jet Li versus YuRong Guang in My Father Is A Hero.

Just saw this for the first time about a month ago. FANTASTIC climax.

Can't be sure, but I think that's Jackie's longest fight to date.

well as much as I LOVE this film I wouldn't call it a "fight scene" in the sense I made for it, this is a shootout.

Also c'mon people put up more videos or pics.

I saw Ip Man btw, a while back. I liked it but sometimes it looked too crazy with the breaking arms and what not. Especially when he'd literally flurry a foe with punches. Good film regardless. Ip Man 2 is out now right?

Mondo Kane: I think you're right it's a bit over 9 mins. Wait..that Drunken Master clip I put up is a bit over 9 mins too. They're both long fight scenes for sure. I love that film, was the DVD Young Master that's remastered any good? I heard it had dubtitles? Cover has purplish background with Jackie on the front with a fan.

Yeah, HARD-BOILED gives us a shootout, not a fight scene.

As for putting up videos and pics, I'd be so much happier if more of you would actually BUY the DVDs of classic Hong Kong movies and make the distribution of them in the U.S. so profitable that the distributors couldn't wait to deliver them--uncut, in the proper aspect ratio and the original language--into our grubby little paws.

Yes.

And I've always preferred Jackie's first drunk fight in Drunken Master 2 over the factory one.

Too many to list a favorite but the first that come to mind are...

Five Element Ninjas: Final Scene/Fight

Invisible Target: Final Scene/Fight

Drunken Master II: Factory scene

I've always liked all of the fight scenes in Avenging Eagle. Can't go wrong with Ti Lung and Fu Sheng...

And Ash, I do buy the DVDs from Hong Kong. You can either thank or blame the Weinstein's for not getting them proper US distribution (at least when it comes to Shaw Bros. films).

This makes me wish all these movies had proper BD releases in the US. I know some can be imported but that quickly gets expensive.

Drunken Master 2: The Legend Of Drunken Master (Hong Kong Uncut Version)

I think no one can beat the fight scene at the factory between Jackie Chan and Ken Lo. It took 2months to perfect that scene.

I feel sad that the Miramax/US release was cut :-(

Because a shoot-out isn't a "fight"? OK.

My "on topic" contribution then:

Re: Your Favorite Hong Kong fight scene?

Some more Jackie Chan. Chan vs Benny Urguidez in Wheels on Meals.

Jackie Chan has so many good ones. Same with Jet Li and Donnie Yen.

I really miss having the Kung Fu channel. I got to see so many awesome Shaw Bros. movies but now I don't remember the names to most of them.

There was one where there was a bridge that led to the main temple and the hero fought his way across the bridge through hundreds of baddies.

That isn't a Hong Kong/Chinese film. It's a Thai one and pretty crappy one at that.

I'll let the Street Fighter one slide cuz at least he admitted that one.

This thread makes me wish we'd get an HK equivalent of The Expendables. Imagine a free for all action spectacular featuring all the surviving martial arts superstars of yesteryear, the mainstays of the 80's and 90's, and the rising stars of today?
