Re: Box office predictions: Star Trek
Tracking services are predicting a $50m opening weekend for Star Trek.
Paramount is predicting a $60m opening weekend.
Nikki Finke/"Hollywood vibe" is predicting $65m.
For comparison's sake, Casino Royale (Bond reboot) opened to $40.8m, Batman Begins (Batman reboot) opened to $48m*.
* The thing everybody fails to mention with Batman Begins is that it opened on a Wednesday to $15m and made $9m on Thursday, taking some edge off the weekend demand.

HSX (Hollywood Stock Exchange) is calling for 65 million.
Boxofficeguru is calling for 71 million open.
Waiting on Boxofficemojo and world of kj
I've noticed as we get closer to the start date, tracking has been getting more and more.

Re: Box office predictions: Star Trek
I wouldn't be at all surprised if it grosses $75m+ opening weekend. I'm not much of a Trek fan whatsoever (never have been, though I liked Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country well enough), but I'm kind of stoked to see what Abrams has done with the universe.

That's respectable. Add another, what 100-150 million for international? And then a buttload of DVD/Blu-ray sales. Paramount should be quite happy.

Check out this post:
Apparently if Star trek does not make 246 million, it is a big disappointment
TVH made $109 million domestically. That's $217 million, today. TMP's $82 million in the U.S. would be $246 million, today. TMP's budget would equal $105 million, today. Isn't ST09 at $150 million?
ST09 has been hyped like no other Trek movie. It's received very good reviews. To the extent it helps, J.J. Abrams name behind it means something to popular culture audiences. If with all that it can't out-take TMP in the U.S. and barely clears TVH after controlling for inflation, I'd call that a big disappointment.

Re: Box office predictions: Star Trek
Maybe they should take a look at the numbers for the last few Trek films and then figure out how much the new film has to clear in order to be a success.

Re: Box office predictions: Star Trek
From the reviews, Trek seems to be better than Wolverine so hopefully it will outdo that and make at least 80-100.

Latest:
FRIDAY 10:50 AM: Sources tell me that Thursday screenings starting at 7 PM, including midnight shows, made approximately $7 million for Star Trek. "There was a big core fan turnout," one of my insiders says, "so you can't extrapolate to weekend numbers." Nevertheless, it's a great start.

A little more:
Paramount's Star Trek reboot opened to $7 million at the North American box office in Thursday evening showings that began at 7pm at most of its 3800+ venues, according to Variety.com.
Last weekend, Fox's X-Men Origins: Wolverine grossed just under $5 in showings that began at Friday midnight, on its way to an $85.1m opening weekend.
Star Trek's performance also outpaced last May's Iron Man, which took in over $4m in showings that began Thursday evening, and earned $102.1 million by the close of business Sunday.
Despite the parallels between Iron Man and Star Trek - with Trek even outpacing the Marvel property in some metrics like critical reception and ticket sales % on online sites like Fandango, Paramount and rival studios are still saying tracking suggests Star Trek will not approach Iron Man's weekend figures, or even Wolverine's, though the Hollywood trade reports a number of films have outperformed their tracking indicators in recent months.

Solid.
I know most of us predicted in the range of $50 - 65 million opening weekend; but I'd love to see it do better.
If it can do $7 million in a five hour stretch, who knows how it'll do this weekend.
