Great article.

I think this film will be the most innovative film we have seen to date. I like how the article stressed Nolan's use for real special effects versus building things in a computer. I also liked how he was quick to say this was not like Avatar or Surrogates but more like The Matrix and The Dark City. That alone says a lot. Christopher Nolan is my favorite "blockbuster" director.

Also, what was that about Superman? He's going to take on Superman after Batman wraps up?

Read the Superman Sequel is a Go! thread :p Supposedly he's been tasked to produce or provide creative input on it.

He's going to produce it, and help with the story. At one point there was talk of his brother, Jonathan, directing it, but I don't know if that is still the case.

Yeah. I'm super glad for Nolan being a HUGE Director but also an artist. In a way, and I'm not comparing to him directly to the quality of him but, he's like Kubrick. Studio wise..he's got it all. They're letting him do whatever he wants now and he's an awesome visual director utilizing the frame for depth in character and story.

At a $160mil budget, I'm sure it's going to be PG-13. Doesn't matter, though. Nolan pushed it very well with the Batman movies.

Yeah, Nolan's gone far beyond the need of working within a rating. He makes great stuff out of what he wants.

I don't care what the rating is as long as it's a good story that doesn't feel like it was held back by anything.

Ah so it's official eh?

Anyone wonder how one becomes a member of the MPAA? I also wonder if it's a full time gig...watching films months ahead of their release would be awesome.

"violence and action throughout" - sounds good to me!

Certainly as Nolan has proven, films can be intense without the f-words flying or blood splattering. They can also include all those things and be completely boring, all depends on the talent behind the camera.

I cannot wait to see this.

If it's as good as I expect, I hope WB doesn't fuck up the eventual BD.

The "members" of the MPAA are the studios (Sony, Paramount, Fox, Universal, etc.). The members of the Ratings Board are the ones who watch the films. And, no, it's not a full-time job. They have to be appointed by the head of the MPAA and recruited from a field of candidates with strong credentials in...something or other. Not necessarily film. And their identities are supposed to be secret.

There was a documentary about what a sham the Ratings Board is. It's by Kirby Dick and it's called THIS FILM IS NOT YET RATED (2006). Here's the synopsis from IMDB, which provides more info to help answer your question:

"Documents a history of the MPAA ratings board. Talks to numerous directors and actors about the censorship of their movies before they could be released. Includes directors, Kevin Smith, Matt Stone, John Waters, Darren Aronosfsky, Maria Bello, Atom Egoyan. Director, Kirby Dick hires a lesbian family of private investigators to find out the names of the MPAA ratings board and see if the raters are actually parents of children 5-17 like the MPAA tells American parents they are."

Spoiler:
Sci-Fi Action. Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan directs an international cast in an original sci-fi actioner that travels around the globe and into the intimate and infinite world of dreams. Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a skilled thief, the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb’s rare ability has made him a coveted player in this treacherous new world of corporate espionage, but it has also made him an international fugitive and cost him everything he has ever loved. Now Cobb is being offered a chance at redemption. One last job could give him his life back but only if he can accomplish the impossible–inception. Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse: their task is not to steal an idea but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming. This summer, your mind is the scene of the crime.

I don't mind knowing a bit about what the film's about... and that description has me very intrigued. Sounds like this should be a mindfuck.
