Fine. I'll admit it. I was excited to see her too. (Don't tell the cool kids. :()

But I'm disappointed she looks overly skinny like she did in Fast & Furious. I prefer her looking curvy like she did in Avatar.

I'm amazed how close the new trailer is to the original Grindhouse trailer. Although I do wish they had managed to coax Alba and Lohan into recreating the topless pool scene...

I read that Lohan is topless at some point in the movie. Was that just an internet rumor?

Don't know, but if she is, that will be a warm-up for her next role where she will portray Linda Lovelace.

A rumour based on the fact that her character apparently is one of the chicks from the hot tub in the original fake trailer.

Damn, didn't know De Niro or Segal was in this.......looks excellent - While there is definitely a lot of ham going on....it still looks really well made.

and I still love the tagline from the original Faux trailer:

"They just fucked with the wrong Mexican"

And also, about the comments saying the illegal trailer is a political statement...Please show some fucking respect as Machete set aside some personal time to create this special Cinco De Mayo message.

That guy's deep-read articulation of the trailer is going to provoke more violence that the movie itself.

It's a straight-faced silly movie.

I'll be suprised (and in awe ... and maybe slightly scared when leaving the theater hehe) if it stays mean and doesn't have some South Parki-ish message towards the end.

Alex Jones is pretty hysterical, and gets nutty with the globalist conspiracy theories.. he's also one of those 9/11 "truthers".

But, to a certain extent I agree with his sentiment and will not be seeing this movie. As a child of hispanic immigrants who were welcomed to this country and found a far better life, I found the shit spewed in the trailer to be completely despicable. This is one hispanic who wants nothing to do with that "border crossed us" bullshit. If I didn't know better, I'd think this movie was made by the klan to turn people against Mexicans.

Uhm...being Mexican born from..Mexican parents who moved here and got married and etc etc. I think this movie is hilarious. I hope you're just joking. That guy ranting is crazy. I dunno wtf he's going on about. It's an "exploitation" style film...except it's also not such a film of that nature.

There weren't any Mexploitation films back in the day here in the US (at least ones that got popular or matter)...RR thought it'd be cool to make one..and well...it is cool. Being a film major all I can do is just give props to RR cuz of the guts he has to release a film like this...a film that potentially may very well bomb but be a cult kind of thing.

Also..it's so fucking cheesy on purpose that if people take this shit seriously I just can't comprehend that nonsense.

I must be too young to get the joke. I saw Grindhouse and just thought it was pretty lame. Never heard of a "grindhouse" or understood what the hell they were homaging. The "Thanksgiving" trailer and the car chase at the end of Death Proof were about the only parts of it worth watching.

The "grindhouse" schtick just seems like an excuse to make a shitty movie real quick and call it "ironic" and make money off the fanboys. I have an idea, I'm going to make a really bad movie, then say I made it bad on purpose. Is that how it works?

No shit. A film that looks this cheesy with a famous cast is obviously cheesy on purpose. But that doesn't negate the fact that it still is cheesy, and not mine or a lot of peoples kind of thing.

Lamphorn-How old are you? I'm 23. Grindhouse-It's just RR and QT having fun making homages to the films they love and grew up with. If you don't get it, that's your problem. I never have seen a film of that nature but know a lot about them out personal knowledge, dunno how...sure as hell wasn't from my Film History class.

It's just a style, man. Let it go. Why didn't you like Grindhouse? I thought they were great love letters to the era but made w/ great directors. That's the difference. I mean Planet Terror was a shit ton of loving for John Carpenter. Death Proof was a 70s slasher flick but..instead of a literal slashing it's an orgasmic killing with a car....by a Stuntman gone homicidal mad.

Blu Man-And that's fine, I'm not snapping at anybody who doesn't like what RR is selling. I'm just not able to understand how people get offended by it especially when they hear the birth of the project.

I'm in my 30's. I guess I "get" it, I just think they're homaging really bad movies. While Tarantino is a great director and can do it well, it's still a bad movie. RR isn't very talented, in my opinion. I like his attitude and loved "Rebel Without a Crew" as an inspiring book, but I find his directing and writing to be terribly amateurish and film-school.

Grindhouse was a good in-joke, but the guys should have actually made it for a grindhouse budget, because as I understand it, the movie was such a flop it damn near put the Weinsteins out of business.

As far as being offended goes. If something is offensive, people should be offended. I'm sure the blackface minstrel show guys said it was "just a joke" too. Imagine a shit-kicking Chuck Norris parody about a bunch of Minute Men mowing down hoards of totally racist stereotypes of Mexicans crossing the border, do you think claiming it's just a joke would carry any water?

Original films considered "Grindhouse" were often shitty films, produced very quickly and on low budgets. Quite a few find themselves in the so bad they are great category. That's part of the charm of that era of film making. Aside from the often vulgar nature, over the top-ness, politically incorrect tones, etc.. etc.. they offered a high degree of entertainment value for some. If you didn't grow up with these types of exploitation films or have in more recent times learned to identify or appreciate some of the classics, then any of these newer model "throwback" films will probably be a loss to you. For the rest of us, it would seem that there aren't enough good theatrically released exploitation films reminiscent of a mostly forgotten era of film making.

I actually have a problem with the political message (intentional or not) embedded within Machete, but it looks so insane I just can't help myself. I'll be seeing even if I have drive 20 miles into Boston to do it ....

Yes, the blackface stuff was offensive but that was offensive to begin with (and also out of ignorance). Yet it's been reproduced in a tasteful form of humor sense that time. Also that Norris parody is different. It has not actual basis or popular impact of culture for people to be "ok" with it. RR and QT rolled with something that was cool and did it in their style and it worked. Finanically...no but critically it was recognized.

Machete has a huge pop culture basis. The exploitations films of the 70s that were huge and by huge I mean as wave of cinema. We had tons of Blaxploitation films, Shaft for example (for which I haven't seen the film but I enjoy it's impact on film) and Dolemite and Foxy Brown and many more, here in the US. I can't think of any Mexploitation films. And RR is just making Machete as his form of a Mexploitation film. I mean...if a Mexploitation film was made back in the day I'm sure I'd see a Mexican trying to take down The Gringo that has pushed the Mexican to whatever the cheesy plot needs to propel him to. I think it's cool and funny to see something like that made now...in an obvious cheesy attempt of getting that vibe.

Yeah, but that was made in the style of the many crappy action films Mexico had in the 80s....difference w/ El Maricahi from all of those crappy Mexican action films is that RR had imagination and and a competent sense of filmmaking. I like El Mariachi(saw it for the 1st time 2 years ago)..love and grew up w/ Desperado. El Mariachi wasn't Mexploitation.

Yeah, but that's also a bit of PR. We never really saw the 10K version. The studio put it through major clean-up and post-production that cost several times that amount.

Then what theme is common for films considered Mexploitation? The film itself shares a lot of elements found within early US exploitation films but I really don't know which elements don't make it a Mexploitation film.

There was one I'd watch all the time with twin masked heroes. I always had a blast that they'd sleep (and I think they even showered) with their masks on. And it was always awesome seeing these two masked guys just cruising in their car (I think it was a convertible).

Now I wanna watch some of these again. :(
