re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)
I never even finished watching Public Enemies. Sure, I had to return it before the rental closed but I kept telling myself I'd re-rent it but could never muster the desire to do so. I got a bit over halfway and I felt like I'd watch a 3 hour insomnia therapy video.

I really liked Public Enemies even though I understand the complaints as it does have pacing issues. I don't think Mann knew what story he wanted to tell and it was jumbled with all the different elements of the various characters' stories.

Really? A bump for that? I too got a bit excited to find something out.
Kind of surprised a title hasn't been announced. Anyone know how long before The Dark Knight came out when that title was announced?

Not much but something:
Christopher Nolan has finally given a small update on Batman 3. While attending a press conference for Inception in Italy, the director was asked if Warner Bros. had officially greenlit the upcoming sequel and if he could provide an update on the project. The director said that his brother, Jonah Nolan, has finished a draft of the script and that he is now working on the screenplay himself. Hit the jump to read the full quote and to see Nolan talk about Batman 3 and his inspirations for Inception.
When asked about Batman 3, the director said:
“I don’t like to talk too much about things until I’m further along with them. But I’m working on the script right now. My brother Jonah has done a draft for the script and now I’m writing on it. We have set a release date and as far as the film being officially greenlit, they haven’t told they don’t want to do it. So I’m hopeful.”

Seems like Warners is dragging its feet on Batman 3.
Some kind of belated reaction to Heath Ledger's untimely passing?

Yeah, I don't see how that looks like Warner is dragging their feet
Seems like just letting Nolan work at his own pace, especially given that they let him spend $160 mil to make something like Inception.

No one at Warner Brothers cares one iota about the passing of Heath Ledger. You think they'd drag their feet on this money making juggernaut because of some drug addicted dead actor?

Offensive comment aside....WB wants a fucking good movie from Nolan. They want it to make a lot of money. They're going let Nolan do whatever the fuck he wants.

I agree on the last two sentences, but not the first. WB doesn't give a shit about the actual quality as long as the flick makes bank.

1.) Nolan is on board one more 'money in the bank' Batman film.
2.) Nolan enjoys the creative process given to him and does future films with WB. Look at Inception for example.

Yes, right now a studio would have to be stupid to not give Nolan complete control.
The Dark Knight made $533m in the US alone, placing it third overall (unadjusted) just behind Avatar (#1) and Titanic (#2). Nolan just made them a boatload of money on Inception, and he's hugely in demand so he could walk if his terms aren't met. Plus he's advisor on their upcoming Superman project.
It almost seems that if Nolan ever got bored of directing, he'd be running WB.

Yeah....I think WB from now on will get anything Nolan wants now. Which is great for him and us. Last time I've seen WB do that was for Kubrick (though his material at times was more...pushing the boundaries at times), and they still let him do his thing.

Sorry. I shouldn't have used that smilie. Bad choice. I meant to emphasize the fact that the studio doesn't care about the death of an actor over the profits of a film.

I understand it as him laughing at the idea that WB would drag their feet on anything that makes this much money for any reason. It just happened that the reason in this case was Heath Ledger's death.
