From that article it doesn't seem like they cleaned up Bane's audio at all. Just remixed the abient sounds. I'm cool with that since Bane's voice sounded just fine. It's really just the accent that throws you off at first.

This couldn't be more ridiculously incorrect.

How so? The accent weirded me out at first (I still wonder what exactly it's supposed to be) but the actual voice was perfectly intelligble. It was no worse than Ra's Al Ghul speaking through a gas mask in BB.

Scarecrow was hard to understand through his mask the first time I saw Batman Begins.

Based on this and the Batman replacement actor thread, not according to Mr. Tattoo, no.

Not that it matters of course, because if anyone wants to come off as an authority or final word on a subject that's fine because it doesn't mean anyone else has to take it that way.

Because I can understand people with different accents perfectly. I'm a translator by profession, so to make a blanket statement saying that it was the accent that people didn't understand and not the fact his voice is muffled and unintelligible is patently ridiculous.

Ra's Al Ghul was perfectly intelligible through his gas mask. Have you even seen Batman Begins? What kind of ridiculous statement is that?

Oh Nolan, you unapologetic genius!

Well Nolan has adjusted the audio so maybe we can all stop bickering about it for a while.

So your job is translating accents? I don't really care but good to know.

No, I didn't see Batman Begins. I just brought up Ra's Al Ghul wearing a gas mask out of a lucky guess and not to illustrate how easy to understand Ra's accent was relative to the peculiar one chosen for Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

I didn't have any problem with Ra's in the gas mask. I don't even recall that being an issue for anyone. Not anywhere close to how Bane sounded in the prologue, which was an issue for lots of folks.

I normally don't like mash-up videos, but I have to admit that they did a great job with this one

That was my point. Ra's was easy to understand. And so is Bane after you figure out the "rythm" of his accent. Tom Hardy was doing a rather thick (and somewhat rambling) accent. It's odd at first. But once I figured it out, I found him easy to understand.

That's certainly what I assumed, since it was such a ridiculously incorrect argument.

Also, I'm not sure if you're aware of this or not, but translators often have to listen to people speak English in different accents, and travel around the world. We're exposed to MANY different accents and learn to find them easier to understand than you normal people who like to pretend you do for Batman movies. I'm sorry this interpretation of what I said went right past you. I'll stop wasting time and fully break down my inferred meanings for you next time.

You really need to work on your sarcasm detection skills. I have both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight on BD.

But nice try removing my when you quoted my post.

Again, your sarcasm detection needs work.

I have a friend who's a translator so I'm well aware of the need to understand accents. My point is that once I figured out Bane's accent (it took me all of 10 seconds), I had no problem understanding him. Unfortunately, you (and various others) cannot. But just because you (and they) cannot, doesn't mean I too cannot understand Bane.

My quote doesn't sound like your point at all. Ra's was easy to understand without having to do anything. Once you have to start making up excuses for Bane and instructions on how to understand him, it probably means it's done poorly.

Yes, and everyone else is wrong. Back to the chief argument that you Nolan-apologists love making. You're able to mysteriously understand Bane so fuck everyone else.

I thought you had originally misunderstood me and thought I said Ra's was hard to understand. When you said he wasn't hard to understand that's when I responded with "that was my point".

Thank you for the clarification. But I don't think the voice is the problem given all the new mix has reportedly done is lower the ambient sounds. If that's all it took for people to now suddenly understand Bane, it's not a voice work issue but a soundmix issue.

Kind of like how people complain that certain movies have the music and sound effects so loud that they drown out the dialogue and make it difficult to understand. The dialogue itself is not the problem. The problem is everything surrounding it.
