Bring back Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayans in the roles.

God no. For the life of me, I have no idea why that show was so well liked. I tried because I love Lethal Weapon, but I didn't make it beyond 3 episodes.

I think the general moviegoing public probably doesn't care about Mel Gibson's nuttiness (or Johnny Depp's, who was recently let go from the Harry Potter franchise), but there's still that recording out there of him ranting about his girlfriend getting "raped by a pack of [n-word]s" that will get trotted out again and that's the kind of optics the studios want to avoid. Gibson and Depp are so far into the A-list that their toxic personalities are more or less accepted and shrugged away.

The expiration date for another Lethal Weapon installment came and went about twenty years ago, though. (Sort of like Ghostbusters.) I don't think anyone under forty would give a shit about seeing two eldery cops trading witty quips while they shoot people.

Yet ironically, Bad Boys for Life is currently the top grossing domestic movie of 2020 and may wind up holding that title for the whole year.

It's one thing to have Gibson star in a tiny indie film which doesn't need to make much money to break even, and it's one thing for him to be behind the camera.
But you can't have him on-screen as the lead -- especially in a movie about a renegade rogue cop. Bad, bad optics

A reboot makes FAR more sense than a sequel.
Agree. I caught Glover on "Black-ish" this week and no way can he step into this role again unless it's a cameo or a supporting character. He's just too old. And I really hate saying that, but it's true.

Haha. Sure. I hope it feels like a Lethal Weapon film and not a one-off like the last Die Hard movie.

That's impressive to be 91 and still working. I assume there will be someone ghost directing too?

^ Gibson is a pretty damn good director in his own right. I’m sure he could be there to help out.

Well Clint Eastwood is 90 and still directing so it can be done.

I assume there will be no Joe Pesci. I'll watch it, if it happens. I'm about 20/80 on it actually happening.

Never thought this series would go on so long that Murtaugh's daughter Rianne would be in her 60s.

Glover is 74 and Gibson is 64. Whatever story they come up it would be it wouldn’t make any sense to have Riggs and Murtaugh still be cops. They would be long retired. And remember Roger was celebrating his 50th birthday in 1987 when the first movie came out. He would be in his 80s if the movies were in normal timelines.

I predict he'll dive naked out of a balcony in the opening scene, bringing Riggs and Murtaugh out of retirement to investigate. It will be a nice bookend with the first Lethal Weapon.

Wonder what the plot will be? Riggs and Murtaugh going undercover shaking-down a retirement home fronting for a drug cartel?

At the end of Lethal Weapon 4 EVERYONE had a baby so I’d imagine it would center around one of them. I can see Riggs and Murtaugh coming out of retirement, or going rogue, to help out one of those kids who got themselves into trouble. Those kids would be in their early 20s now.

I'm really hoping that they won't make a passing the torch thing. Just kidnap a relative of one of them and have Riggs and Murtaugh do their thing without babysitting a child/grandchild. Nobody wants Mud Williams.

Well, it's not like Warners is unfamiliar with a 90-something guy directing their movies.

Also, Glover at 74 and Gibson at 65 are far from over the hill, given that we still get Harrison Ford (78), Al Pacino (80), Robert De Niro (77), and that director I hinted at above (90) in starring roles.

As for the storyline, I hear it's VERY dark by Lethal Weapon standards, but that's all that's known, other than this ISN'T a "passing the torch" movie - it's the end. It's supposed to be called "Lethal Finale"

the fact that Glover was "too old for this shit" back in Lethal Weapon ONE makes me LOL.

re: Lethal Weapon 5 (D: Mel Gibson)

I mean it becomes Die Hard at that point with the kids in jeopardy. That is one of the ways it makes sense, but maybe they vacation to South Africa get in trouble with the government due to the events of Lethal Weapon 2? Or they travel to China and the same thing, they run into trouble with the Triads because of Lethal Weapon 4.

Well that sounds great. Looking back at Lethal Weapon, Riggs' suicidal and nihilistic tendencies were always dark. I felt like it lightened up after the story turns towards the end of Lethal Weapon 2. After that, it felt all-around pretty friendly and goofy.
