That said, the list above is only for Regal theaters. This site has a list that includes a few other theater chains, including international locations, and lists 3 locations in Ohio:

Re: The Hobbit
This really sucks. The closest theater to me is over 300 miles away. So I guess opening day will be 24fps, and I'll need to make a weekend trip to see it in HFR.

Re: The Hobbit
There's already some AMC theaters listed on this site, although I guess they chain hasn't made any official announcement yet:

I got a Facebook notification that AMC will have new news "available soon"

Stop it with these fucking 3D moans and complaints, they no longer hold any water.
If you want to see The Hobbit on regular 2D film on December 14, 2012, you'll have plenty opportunity to do so. They aren't trying to deny you seeing this movie the way you want in any way.
So stop it with this fucking bullshit hipster crying and mock outrage.

It just occured to me that we're only about five weeks away for "An Unexpected Journey" being released. I really hope this doesn't suck. I'm not really sure how it could suck, but I hope it doesn't. If anything, I like The Hobbit more than LOTR. I want this to be a raging success from all angles...
Sidenote: It's amazing to consider that the final LOTR film was released 9 years ago. Put another way, nine year olds who snuck in and saw it in the theaters graduated from high school this year. It definitely doesn't seem like that long ago.

Re: The Hobbit
Why would they have had to sneak in? The films were PG-13, and theaters don't age-restrict PG-13 movies.

Re: The Hobbit
here are the AMC theaters that will be showing this in HFR:
http://www.amctheatres.com/events/th...-rate-theatres
why none of the three theaters in DC proper are being shown in HFR is an insult from corporate.

Re: The Hobbit
Or none of the theaters in DC have digital projectors that could be easily upgraded to HFR, and AMC isn't going to pay thousands for a new projector just to showcase an unproven technology.

Re: The Hobbit
there are brand new projectors at Mazza, Georgetown has three 3D systems surely one of them could be upgraded. AMC screwed the Uptown with a faulty dual Christie Projector setup.

Here's some info on HFR support on projectors:
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...support-381871
Another factor besides cost may be supply and timing. If the projector requires an updated IMB, it's unknown how fast these are being supplied. They'd also have to be installed and tested by knowledgeable technicians, who may be spread pretty thin. Even a simple firmware update may require a tech.
It's entirely possible that theater chains will add to their lists as more projectors are converted; I'm sure they don't want to pre-preemptively list theaters that are scheduled to be converted in time, but haven't yet, especially when pre-selling tickets.

The conversation focused on DLP Cinema projectors from Barco, Christie and NEC, which combined make up the majority of installations in the U.S. To get to high frame rates, the "Series Two" versions of these projectors require a software upgrade, plus an accompanying HFR-supported piece of hardware called an integrated media block (IMB).
But panelists reported that there are an estimated 7,500 "Series One" projectors already installed in the U.S. alone. David Pflegl, director of technical services at Carmike Cinemas, explained that these projectors will not be capable of projecting 3D HFR content...
Kirk Griffen, director of engineering at Harkins Theaters, offered an overview of the options available for upgrading IMBs from various vendors. He said Christie and Sony IMB hardware requires software upgrades that involve a fee. There is no fee to upgrade the software on the Doremi IMB. Dolby and Qube IMBs, he added, already support HFRs.

Here's a blog that lists AMC theaters. Very happy Barrywoods will have it since that's my go-to theater.

Advance tickets are on sale.
On Fandango I found screenings by searching for "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey HFR 3D".
AMC has their listings under "Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - High Frame Rate"

Got my tickets. HFR 3D. Didn't bother with IMAX, though.

Re: The Hobbit
My theater only has IMAX 3D tickets on sale. I'm waiting for the assigned-seat balcony. I'm too self-important and rich to stand for General Admission any more.

My 48fps/HFR options at Empire Theatres were:

The difference between #1 and #3 is assigned seating, better seats, etc.
Options for 24fps were all similar, with the inclusion of a 2D option.

Re: The Hobbit
Just scooped up my tickets for the 3-D HFR screening. Luckily, my go-to theater will have that new projector installed by then. Glad I don't have to go all over the place searching for a screen. And it's reserved seating.
