did you want the movie to be serious?

Puzznic 08-01-07 02:08 PM

It seems like this movie seperates the glass half full people from the glass half empty people.

The optimists realize the movie has flaws but appreciate everything else the movie has going for it. The pessimists can't look past the flaws and just nitpick the movie to death.

No, I wanted it to be good.

I mean, did we really need Bumblebee to piss on Tuturro's character? Did that add ANYTHING to the story beyond a laugh from the 12 year old boys in the audience?

raven56706 08-01-07 02:29 PM

to take out those parts would mean it would be unfunny... did you want any funny parts in the film?

If they were anything like the funny parts included in the film, then no.

raven56706 08-01-07 02:42 PM

the cartoon was goofy.... did you want the movie to not be goofy...

No not really. The humor in the cartoon wasn't no where near as bad as the stuff in the film, IMO.

Well, I thought it was funny, and so did the two audiences I've seen it with. But even still, it was maybe 15 seconds of the movie. Between all of the complaining about Bumblebee pissing and Optimus' "My Bad" comment, you would think they were cornerstones of the movie. They're funny little throwaway lines in a movie about robot aliens searching for a powerful box. I took them about as seriously as the rest of the movie, which means that I just kept eating my popcorn and waiting for the next thing to blow up.

I don't disagree that the movie could have trimmed a few minutes here or there, and the sneaking Transformers scene would make the top of my list, but I'm just stunned to read that some of the lighthearted stuff has folks down on the whole movie.

Draven 08-01-07 02:53 PM

I was actually embarassed to be in the theater at numerous points during the film. The examples I"ve mentioned are just a few of many, many moments like that.

Everything with the robots transforming and blowing things up was awesome. Nearly everything else was either mediocre or downright terrible. Ratio-wise, that's a lot of mediocre and terrible.

It's not one or two things - it's throughout the whole movie.

cerial442 08-01-07 02:54 PM

The ebay talk and the smaller robot would have to go too, and all of humor parts from Sector 7. Also give Megatron more than a minute on screen and introduce Optimus Prime 30 minutes earlier.

did you like armaggedon?

It was OK - it was definitely a step down from Bad Boys and The Rock, two of Bay's movies that I really enjoy.

He's getting worse with each effort and it's getting harder and harder to ignore the stupid shit he throws in his movies. Armageddon was a big step in the wrong direction and, in my opinion, he's bottomed out with Transformers. I don't see how it could get worse.

raven56706 08-01-07 03:43 PM

how would you rank armaggedon with transformers?

Rival11 08-01-07 03:48 PM

Yes, Transformers was a terrible movie but I liked it because they got the Transformers themselves right - I was able to enjoy the movie because I just tuned everything else out. It may have been easier for me because I knew this was going to be a shitty movie going in but what I didn't expect was for them to nail the look and appeal of the Transformers so it made it even that much more easier for me to disregard everything else.

"Helicopters and sunsets with people walking in slow motion" - that's the one Bay trademark that I hate with a passion and can't ignore - no matter how hard I try.

Definitely above. Are you looking for a number?

Scale of 1-10, 10 being the best movie ever and 1 being Transfomers, Armageddon is a 4.

Did it really kill the movie? Is it a huge deal to leave the scene in?

WHO CARES?! It's one three second scene. It doesn't make a big difference.

It's sad to see you were "embarrassed" to be in the theater. Not sure why anyone would be, for any movie.

Sometimes I think I'm picky if I happen to notice something that doesn't make sense in a movie. Then I come on the internet, read posts like some of the ones in this thread, and am grateful that I enjoy watching nearly any movie, and am not anal about every little thing I see.

It's just a movie. So it had some scenes you didn't like. So what? It doesn't matter. The box office receipts show that a LOT of people enjoyed the hell out of this movie. Why piss on their enjoyment with complaints that are so minuscule?

bee_01 08-01-07 06:26 PM

I rewatched some of the original Transformers episodes since seeing the movie...there's some good stuff in there, but a lot of it hasn't aged very well.

Wow. I'm glad you liked the movie, but so what if someone didn't like it, or thought a scene was stupid. They aren't insulting you personally. Take some of your own advice, it is just a movie.

Just because a lot of people like it, means everyone should? Come on.

I"m curious, what exactly does that explain?

Also I have seen all of the Micheal Bay movies except for the Island, and honestly I thought they all were pretty crappy. I went into Transformers with an open mind, and still hated it.

matrixrok9 08-01-07 07:13 PM

Raven,

More negative responses are coming out. But that's cool because people have seen the movie and not speculating on previews and leaked pictures

You should have seen the previous Transformers threads. All hate and no love. At least this thread is about 75% love and 25% hate.

I couldn't believe it either.

Re: Jurassic Park comparison

Yeah, seeing a living and breathing dinosaur on screen for the first time in history can't compare to seeing a hunk of metal turn into another hunk of metal on screen. There's being impressed (Transformers) and then there is jaw-dropping awe inspiring(Jurassic Park).

Which is a good turnaround. I'm in between. My posts seem overly negative/pessimistic, but the robot parts and action was cool for the most part. It was the excessive inane human drama and utterly useless characters that brings the movie down(and the ads, but we won't go there again :)) That and the fact that the Decepticons don't show up until the third act. In essence a sequel should be so much better because they got all of this out of the way for the first film and can just focus on the robots.

I've enjoyed all of Bay's movies to an extent, Bad Boys II being the exception, so I was expecting to enjoy it and went in with an open mind but was sorely disappointed.

$287 mil and counting though.... thats a mighty haul for a bad movie ;)

It's having an opinion, and as mentioned earlier, what does box office take have to prove? If a movie makes money it is good, and if it doesn't it is bad?

I'm still curious over why people are getting upset over people not liking this movie.
