All I can say is the third installment of Pirates is more than I expected.

Without giving too much away: Keith Richards is sinister. There is quite a lot of Jack. The monkey is cute. Tia Dalma is one crabby chick. Barbossa is in top form, arrrr. And it's just bad news if you get involved with Elizabeth Swann.

Jack not only knows how to make an entrance, but he also knows how to make an exit. Plus he can do things that would make Spiderman wet.

I went as Wonka. Nobody batted an eye.

I loved the opening, it was one of my favourite parts of the movie...thought it set the tone for this flick pretty well - darker but not too dark.

Toronto Star review only gave this a 2/4. Personally, I will wait a couple of weeks until the "no passes" rule is lifted, then I'll use up a free movie pass to catch it maybe.

Not worried too much about the reviews though, as the spectacle and running time of the film alone should make it worth the price of admission.

I thought it started off pretty slow. I actually had a hard time staying awake - and I think I missed the Kieth Richards scene - as I don't recall anything involving Jack's parents. The end picked up the pace and I thought it was pretty good.

Overall I liked it - but it will definately take a rewatch (DVD) to make sure.

Man I'm getting old... remind me next time not to go see a 3 hour movie at midnight.

Long story short: I thought the movie sucked.

I'm going to have to agree 100% with Ryan Stewart's review at Cinematical. Everything that made the first film so much fun is completely gone here. Instead of trying to fix Dead Man's Chest wrongs, it just goes more head deep into self importance.

I can take a terrible plot contrivance here and there, but I don't need an hour and a half of all of the characters turning on one another. In addition, the more interesting characters are completely underused and the character resolutions or not what I wanted or expected after how great of a discovery CBP was.

Ryan's review on Cinematical compared it to The Matrix Trilogy -- but at least The Matrix Revolutions knew better and quickly got everybody the fuck out of that theater after Reloaded's bloated run-time.

That reminds me. I saw this at 8pm last night. Got to the theater around 6:30, and there were a bunch of people outside lined up for a midnight showing. This made me nervous, thinking that we wouldn't get good seats for our showing, but we were pleasantly surprised when we entered the theater and there were plenty of seats available.

When I watch a movie at midnight, its because I want to see the first possible screening. I didn't know people went at midnight just to go at midnight.

Regarding the movie, I enjoyed it more than the second, but not as much as the first. Even though, as someone mentioned earlier, there was more Barbosa than Will Turner, I still thought there was too much Will Turner. And I can't stand when Elizabeth Swann raises her voice. When she speaks normally, she's fine, but it just seems out of place when she gets loud.

I don't understand the big fuss about Keith Richards being in the movie. Granted, I don't know much about him aside from The Rolling Stones. I suppose people dislike him for other reasons, but as far as this movie goes, it didn't bother me at all.

a very fitting end!...or is it?

i thought this was a very good send-off to the trilogy. it had everything all the "Pirates" movie were made of. action. adventure, humor, and a little romance. i didn't understand how Will kept getting absolved so quickly, but it all worked out in the end.

i don't think it was as rousing or action packed as the first two. the first two had little action sequences spread throughout, this one seemed to just save it for the end.

but, i didn't get bored and didn't think it was so confusing. i don't know why people are saying the plot is so convoluted. if you pay attention the least bit, you follow it.

very good send-off. really can't get enough Jack.

I loved the return of the two British soldiers from the first one. "Someone has to stay here to guard the heart."

This one kicked ass. Considering it takes 30 minutes before Depp hits the screen and you barely notice gave me a good feeling about this movie. In fact, I'm not sure why people are saying there's a lot of Depp in here, because it seemed to me he's more of a secondary character in this one. Much more screen time for Knightley and Rush. And speaking of Rush, he's steals the movie with his performace. Knightley's not too shabby either having fully grown into her role. Depp of course, is superb. If he comes back for more, I'm there.

I didn't think the movie was too long at all, but I can see how the kiddies might have a tough time sitting there for three hours. Especially with the more "adult" plot and humor.

Will be going back later in the week for a second viewing.

Once Jack shows up, there's more of him on the screen at any given time than during DMC, whether or not he's the focus of the scene.

The more I think about the movie, the more I'm loving it. Even the parts that don't seem to "go anywhere" still add to the atmosphere of the movie. Love it.

It's just all the scenes with the Jack clones. After the first scene, which ran a bit too long, it just gets very, very boring very, very quickly.

What made the first film "fun"? I've seen it twice and when I saw it initially I almost fell asleep. There just wasn't that much to it, it seemed. I still like it, but nowhere as much as the next two.

I do heartily agree with this: "After all, if no one can really die, what's the worst thing that can happen?"

Yeah it looked good, really sharp. All the theaters near me just upgraded ALL there screens. So every screen is DLP Digital Presentation.

I thought it was really good. I liked second one a little bit more, but this was an excellent flick, awesome first half, got a little slow in the middle but not for long ( I was always engaged) the last half was fantastic. I loved all the Shanghai stuff. Great action scene ( when they were escaping the short guy fired his rifle and he flew back) I loved when they were going to rescue Jack, very cool stuff. Liked seeing the monkey shivering pretty cute, I also liked the 2 guys wanting to try to drop a cannon ball on all those dead people.

The only thing that I didnt care for is the introduction of Jack, it was pretty odd. and didnt like Calypso seeing her grow. I thought the ending was good but I was hoping for a better ending. I wish we also would of got more action with the other pirates

overall a pretty good ending to the trilogy. I will be seeing it again.

The problem for me with those scenes was that first, I couldn't get Animal House out of my head, and then Secret Window got stuck there. But, yeah, even without that I do agree that those scenes could've been trimmed a little. But I didn't find them boring at all.

Visually, there were some great shots. The scene with the ship and the stars was absolutely gorgeous.

And the shot of Barbosa standing on the table with the two cannonballs was priceless.

Spoiler:
It took a goddess to resurrect Barbossa, and saving Jack was no easy thing, either. I don't think you'd take a trip beyond World's End for every Tom, Dick, and Harry that died. Plus, if you recall, it seems anyone at peace can't be brought back, anyway. Also, it seemed pretty clear to me that Davy Jones will now be in the care of Calypso, for better or worse, so he's out of the game. And the way Beckett went out, I doubt there's anything left of him to revive. So who's left?

Wow. I couldn't disagree more. I enjoyed every moment of that sequence (along with the rest of the film).

I've seen a couple posts saying "good set up for part 4." I thought this was supposed to be the last one. Did they ever confirm that there would be 3 and only 3 Pirate movies?

Last year Depp had an interview about the potential for more

We'll start off with Depp's quote from a recent Newsweek article: "He's a blast to play," he says. "I'll be in a deep, dark depression saying goodbye to him." He laughs. "I'll keep the costume and just prance around the house, entertain the kids." Or the rest of the world. "Maybe 'Pirates 4, 5 and 6'," he says. "If they had a good script, why not? I mean, at a certain point, the madness must stop, but for the moment, I can't say that he's done."

On the other hand. I'm all for making up random wild speculations!

Spoiler:
After the credits the young child that is with Elizabeth is actually a post fountain of youth jack!

Confuse kids and dumb people with that one!

Not as many reviews at this time as there were for DMC a year ago. Guess a lot of us haven't seen it yet.

I think 20 minutes could have been shaved off but overall it was a great movie and the final action battle was great. I have a few questions about the rules on the Dutchman etc...

Spoiler:

The rule is the Dutchman must have a captain and if all goes well, you only have to do 10 years correct? Does someone have to voluntarily take over as captain then? Also, aren't you also not able to walk on land...is that why Will said he needed Elizabeth's boot?? I was a little confused because he was walking on the sand with the boots..maybe he filled them with water?

Did Calypso "damn" Jones to longer than 10 years and turned him and his crew into sea creatures? So apparently even though Calypso said she'd kill all the bethreyn etc, she must not have touched Will given the final scene.
