What I find really interesting is that all entertainment reports are saying that the high ticket sales for Spidey opening weekend indicate that everyone liked it. News Flash: everyone who pays money for a ticket the first days out is not guaranteed to like it. All that means is a lot of people saw it. This weekend will be the true indicator after word of mouth. Of course I doubt Georgia Rule will give it much competition.

I've noticed part 3 is earning a bit less than part 1 did during their first weekdays. I think it'll drop between 55% - 60% this weekend.

It will still make enough to merit another one I think.

I think it'll be interesting to see how it fares AFTER 5/18, then after 5/24.
The first Spider-man also had 2 weeks without serious competition from SW:AotC.

[QUOTE=The Bus]I don't get the hate for this movie. It's no better or worse than the first two and about par for the course. Listen... this is a movie about a MAN that gets bitten by a MAGIC SPIDER and then wears a tight SUIT. You're complaining about a movie based on this?
exactly. I think Spider-man is in the now too popular stage and the comicgeeks are offended, you know Spider-man was a cult hero like X-men that comic fans had to thier own. now he is more popular than the president. he is mainstream now. I know a lot of comic fans who bitched about the last Batman,Superman, X-men and Spiderman movies. I think its a case that comics are mainstream and not just for geeks anymore. Which leaves the comic geek who once thought he had a special niche in life like "hey I reading all these great comics not many other people know about" thinking he was cool now saying "jeez even that hot female model likes them now." which leaves the comic geek thinking he is not that special anymore and better get a life. lol.

I only posted that since many people are going to be comparing SP3 and the upcoming POTC flick. Just for fun, here are all of the Spidey totals for the first seven days of each:

40.4 / 23.8 / 32.4 / 33.7 / 21.9 / 27.6 / 12.0 - Spider-Man 2
59.8 / 51.3 / 39.9 / 10.2 / 8.0 / 6.7 / 5.9 - Spider-Man 3
39.4 / 43.6 / 31.8 / 11.0 / 9.9 / 8.3 / 7.4 - Spider-Man
40.4 / 23.8 / 32.4 / 33.7 / 21.9 / 27.6 / 12.0 - Spider-Man 2

actually, the first 25 minutes were ruined for me because this stupid little kid who shouldn't have been there to begin with wouldn't shut up, so I finally yelled at his mom to shut him up. she threw a waded up napkin at me, said "jerk" and I returned with "bitch" and she took her kid outside, and decided to sit somewhere else. I saw it the second time with some friends who do a tuesday wings/movie night because there's an endless wings tuesday night, and movies are $5, though this week the bastards dropped the discount. Then I went to see it on the IMAX, which was pretty sweet. so that's how it turned into three viewings.

Not a terrible film but not a very good one either. it was descent. Although the only thing that kept me from hating it is because I feel the second wasn't as good as most people seem to believe. That film was fun but mediocre as well. This one was only worse because it tried to cram too many much into one movie. It was like watching three great movies condensed into on so-so feature.
I do believe we saw the last of Venom.

Have any of you ever watched the UK short, Spider-Planet Man? It stars Rowan Atkinson as Peter Piper/Spider-Plant Man, Jim Broadbent as Batman, Tony Robinson as Robin, Rachel Stevens as Jane Mary, along with Mackenzie Crook (Gareth from The Office, UK version) and Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.
And brace yourself:

As much as I was disappointed in how the movie turned out, I would go see it at my local Imax in a heartbeat if they decide to show it.
For those who saw it at an Imax, how was it? Some movies translate well to the huge wide screen and others just seem way out of place.

This seems to be one of those movies where it becomes "cool" to bash it, and a pack mentality sets in. It becomes a game of one-upsmanship to see who can bash it best.
In the realm of Comic Book Superhero Movies this is definitely in the top half. Better than Superman III, IV, and even Returns, arguably better than ALL of the Batman movies (except Begins), marginally better than Fantastic Four and maybe the Daredevil Directors cut (MUCH better than the Daredevil theatrical cut) ---but not as good as Superman I or II, Batman Begins, Spider Man I or II.
So, maybe a little disappointing, but still a fun, enteraining Comic Book come to life. This isn't Citizen Kane or The Godfather that we're talking about - it's a freaking COMIC BOOK SUPERHERO MOVIE!
Again, by the standards of the genre Spider Man 3 easily gets a "B."

Just caught up on this one this afternoon. What a horrible mess. Maybe I had unrealistic expectations because I loved the first too...and I hate to be negative...but I dare say this movie was horrible. There really wasn't any point in making it. It did nothing to move the Spiderman mythology (in the movie universe) forward. The montage of emo Peter was just awful, and the tie in's with the first film sincerely felt added on. Ugh.

Well, I know I never praised E.T.
It's not bad, but, honestly, to me it's not nearly as good as many people thought at the time (or may still think now).
Just like Spider Man 3 isn't nearly as bad as some people think it is. It isn't bad at all - watch it after Batman Forever or Batman and Robin or Superman III or IV and then tell me that it's in the same category as those movies - and I'll make sure that we get you into a nice white jacket with really long sleeves and have a nice soft room for you to stay in....

The animated gifs make this movie look like a comedic masterpiece, I may need to see it again down the road.
Not surprised that it isn't on pace with the other Spider-man flicks in terms of holding up, it wasn't a good movie, but it's perplexing considering it was still better than Pirates: DMC and that seemed to hold up swimmingly. Though that was a bit more on the flat-out boring side than the corny/sloppy side.
