I was disappointed when I first saw this in the theaters. It has grown on me over the years but it is still a big missed opportunity.

I saw it in the theater during its original release and thought it was great. My best buddy's wife makes fun of us (still!) for thinking it's a good movie.
Watched it (again) recently on DVD and was greatly disappointed in the quality. Saw somewhere (probably here, duh!) that a new release is out (Blu-ray?) so I might have to get that. Great movie, though! Totally bizarre awesomeness! John Lithgow was superb!

I have the Shout Factory disc from when it was first released. I didn't care for it the first time but recently rewatched it and everything about it clicked. Kind of same thing happened with Repo Man for me.

I've seen the movie once since the the last time I posted in this thread. It has that sort of artificiality that I sometimes see in offbeat movies. I think the producers are trying too hard to synthesize a cult favorite. I thought the same thing about Toxic Avenger.

Watching now and I can very happily say, the transfer for this near 35 year-old movie is absolutely immaculate. No specs, no dirt, no ghosting. The colors pop, especially outdoors. It really is a stunning transfer. I’m very pleasantly surprised. And the fun this movie brought so many years ago is still there...
