The first fight? You mean where V takes down those 3 guys? That wasn't a big fight..it was rather small actually. I did like V's last fight though..that was cool.

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
I meant it when I said the first fight. For a movie about a Ninja Assassin, the fight sequences were pretty short and overly reliant on cgi and extreme violence. Plus there was a half-hearted supernatural element which was a bit cheesy. I liked it overall, but would have put it in a "rental" recommendation. It's definatly a step down from V. Back to the topic at hand; McTeigue might not be the best fit for Superman IMO.

There is more at the link.
Warner Bros. and DC Comics have lost a little more control over the Man of Steel.
In an ongoing California court battle over Superman, Judge Stephen Larson issued a ruling Wednesday that awards the family of the superhero's co-creator, Jerry Siegel, rights to additional works, including the first two weeks of the daily Superman newspaper comicstrips, as well as portions of early Action Comics and Superman comicbooks.
This means the Siegels now control depictions of Superman's origins from the planet Krypton, his parents Jor-L and Lora, Superman as the infant Kal-L, the launching of the infant Superman into space by his parents as Krypton explodes and his landing on Earth in a fiery crash.
After a court order reverted rights to the Siegels in 2008, they owned the basis of the Superman character, including his costume, his alter-ego as reporter Clark Kent, the feisty reporter Lois Lane, their jobs at the Daily Planet newspaper working for a gruff editor, and the love triangle among Clark/Superman and Lois.
But that didn't give them the full Superman copyright because DC owns other important elements like Superman's ability to fly, the term kryptonite, the Lex Luthor, Jimmy Olsen and Perry White characters, Superman's vision powers and expanded origins.
The confusion exists because Superman first appeared in 1938 in Action Comics No. 1, which was sold by Siegel and co-creator Joel Schuster to DC. Everything after that was a work-for-hire, owned by DC.
...
However, copyright law dictates that full ownership of Superman goes back to the Siegels in 2013. That will give them the chance to set up Superman pics, TV shows and other projects at another studio.
If they want to get a new "Superman" or even "Justice League" pic featuring the superhero, Warner Bros. and DC will be forced to go into production by 2011.

I don't understand this. If Siegel and Schuster sold the character to DC, how the hell could any of their kids be awarded ownership of the character or any other related characters?

Yeah im getting tired of this shit. Im all for creative rights, but thats just how business was done back then. Dont like it, find another job.
The family also needs to realize, without DC, their version of Superman will be pure shit. WB just needs to break out the checkbook and end this.

That's true. Superman originally got around by making giant jumps ("The ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound"). He couldn't fly under his own power.

My gut feeling is that if WB makes a Superman movie by 2013, it will still be Routh. After that and it definitely won't be him.

I personally thought he looked too young in Returns, so a 35+ Routh would be perfect imo. I think 2013 is the best we can hope for... WB's got Green Lantern in 2011, presumably Batman 3 in 2012...

From CBR
Continuing his previous comments, potential "Superman" director James McTeigue tells MTV News a new "Superman" franchise should go darker. The director admits that statement is a cliche, but thinks "the culture has changed around Superman." McTeigue does not explain how much darker Superman can get after the previous film made the character a dead-beat dad.

As long as Superman himself is not made into a dark brooding figure, they can make the world as dark as they want. Superman himself should always remain a beacon of hope.

Ugh, getting so tired of hearing about potential directors like McTeigue or Mark Millar or whoever and their thoughts on the movie.

That's the only thing that's positive about a "darker" movie: more action. But, as I said, Superman himself shouldn't be dark. Heck, a dark setting might make him contrast better. Basically have a screwed up world and Superman being a true point of positive inspiration for the masses.

Much like others have said here. Superman doesn't need to be dark. He's Pure Americana. He's a Boy Scout. Batman is dark. Superman isn't. He can be involved in dark situations but he himself is not dark.

Dark gives the opportunity to take Superman to the brink and give him pause to think and reflect before he actually goes over. That reflection is what reinforces that beacon status and why. I've said that again and again. Besides, the last film gave the perfect opportunity to set this all up. Have Darkseid's guys, with Luthor's help, grab the son and kill/brainwash/whatever him. Superman then goes on a mission to take on Darkseid - who he can't kill - which then points him back to Luthor who then washes his hands of the situation. That would also set up the Luthor/Superman cat and mouse game. Gives you an opportunity to expand the Superman movie universe, introduce new locations, new characters and some epic fighting.
