not sure if it's been mentioned yet but it looks like stephen king, wes craven, quentin tarantino, simon pegg and guillermo del toro will be doing voice work as 'news readers'. that's a pretty good group of cameos.

I swear I thought it was much less, but you're right.

Wouldn't have helped the film's poor box office regardless.

No Richmond. I guess that's because we don't have AMC theaters around here.

Saw this at Sundance, thought it was so-so. Some good scenes but the cut that I was shown was way long and some of the dialogue was pretty awful. Then again, a lot of Romero's films are like that. And while I'm kinda over the whole "camera view" style of storytelling, I think it works well for a zombie flick and could have been used a lot better than it was here.

This actually played here in Astoria tonight at the Museum of the Moving Image... Romero was there for Q&A (Actually I think it was at the Empire 25 in Times Square but sponsored by the MOMI)

Interview with George Romero where he says a Diary of the Dead sequel (and not like how his other zombie movies are related, but an actual sequel) is in the planning stages: http://www.avclub.com/content/interview/george_romero

And then there's this little nugget, which I was happy to read:

"People called 28 Days and 28 Weeks zombie movies, and they're not! It's some sort of virus; they're not dead."

There. The debate is over.

I don't like what I've read about this movie.
It doesn't seem to connect with the events of 1968's 1st movie.
It's 40 years and we have film students & zombies?

I'm going to see this tonight. I'm going in with really low expectations, so maybe I'll end up liking it.

I haven't seen the movie, but from what I understand, the conceit is that this takes place right at the start of the zombie outbreak. They're just pretending NotLD happened in the late 2000's instead the late 1960's, so Diary of the Dead is probably happening at or close to the same time as the events of NotLD.

The Dead movies seem to exist in something similar to "Marvel Time." Dawn of the Dead doesn't seem to match up with Night, one was late 60s, one late 70s.

BINGO! We have a winner. At least, that's how I always figured it was supposed to be. And I'm always right, and I never lie.

I have to say, even though some of the acting was a bit dodgy and a good portion of the dialog was a bit hamfisted, the movie wasn't as bad as I thought, I really dug the gore, head violence - woohoo

I'm curious about seeing this if it opens up in my area. I love Night and Dawn (and the Dawn remake), not crazy about Day, loved Land at first but slowly began to forget about it. Is it possible I'd like this?

personally I thought it was better than 'Land' - in 'Diary' there was a great scene of tension that Romero hasn't evoked since 'Night'

That's not what Romero said at Comic Con last summer. He said it takes place at the beginning of the outbreak that we were seeing in Night.

It shouldn't, there hasn't been any time continuity between the past dead films.

But NIGHT to DAWN is only 10 years and then to DAY is only 6 years. It was easy to follow because the world was still pretty much the same. And LAND could have solved the problem but instead we get bad makeup, green tinted night scenes and now for the next installment we get the camera shaking movie direction. But if George Lucas can screw up his STAR WARS so can George Romero.

There's no way 10 years actually passed storywise between Night and Dawn. In Dawn we see people out out clearing the countryside, which is essentially what they were doing at the end of Night. Dawn was essentially a few weeks after Night, timewise.

Neat, I didn't know he said it at Comic Con. I was just going by the AV Club article above that stated "His latest, Diary Of The Dead, returns to the first days of the zombie plague—now reset to the present day—and follows a group of film students as they digitally capture the ensuing mayhem."

Why not just include a time machine plot it would make more sense.
This movie is going to be one of those movies that ruins the previous entries like GODFATHER 3, ALIENS 3, STAR WARS prequals did to their franchise.
