Don't know if you guys heard this yet, but it looks like this might be going direct-to-DVD so that Romero doesn't have to deal with studios. You can read more about it here...http://www.horror-movies.ca/horror_6435.html

Another project revealed during the interview sounds like our intial scoop several months ago "Zombisodes". At that point we had no clue what it could be about but today it was revealed to be a project for cell phones. Here is what Romero had to say about it.
"It's a comedy. It's gonna be like the Road Runner and the Coyote cartoons. It's one zombie and one victim. This zombie keeps trying to nail this woman, and everything backfires on him. He just keeps getting fucked over. And of course zombies don't die so if he gets flattened by a boulder, he'll remain flat!"

For some reason, this sounds entertaining.

At Dragon*Con early in September, Romero was asked about this project and he said it was something he wrote years ago when trying to get something - anything - made to continue the Dead series. He really didn't seem like he liked the project, though, given that his more ideal way of continuing the series, Land of the Dead, eventually came through.
(And on a side note, he was also asked about the Dawn of the Dead remake and he said he didn't think it was an actual zombie movie due to the running zombies, and was instead really just an action movie.)

Hmmm...seems like someone has beaten George to the punch: The Zombie Diaries.
Just released on DVD in region 2. CNN has video up of the "Zombie Walk" in London today. Hundreds of zombies took to the streets in a promotional gimmick: http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/off...ies.record.cnn
SYNOPSIS
In the early part of the 21st Century, an unknown virus began spreading among the populous. Within weeks it had engulfed the entire planet, from the smallest rural communities to the greatest cities. Upon the death of its host, the virus would reanimate the corpse until it was no longer able to support itself. Soon, the planet was infested with a new threat - the undead. So begins our journey into the dystopian world of The Zombie Diaries.
Three compelling video diaries chart the early days of the plague, right through to the last days of the apocalypse:
A documentary film crew travel to the countryside to make a movie about the virus. Unaware of what is happening around the country, the team is accidentally caught up in the outbreak. They later take shelter in a nearby wood, where a much more sinister fate awaits them.
A husband and wife escape London and pick up a mysterious hitchhiker as they scavenge the remnants of dead towns, unaware of the dangers that wait for them in the shadows.
A group of survivors flee to an old farm to seek refuge, only to find themselves under siege from creatures that attack in the dead of night.
Watch the devastation unfold through the eyes of those who were there...

Wow, and here i thought Romero's film was going to be pretty fresh and original for a zombie flick. Saw the trailer for this one and it looks pretty damn good, gonna have to order it...

They are pretty different concepts. Romero's is about student filmmakers making a horror film who stumbled upon the outbreak and film the beginnings of it.
This film seems to chronicles three different perspectives and from beginning to end of the apocalypse.
Both look good to me.

"Diary of the Dead" has been picked up by the Weinstein Company. Apparently many companies were bidding for it within minutes of it's screening (many were direct to DVD companies), but Weinstein company has committed to doing a theatrical release for the film.
Hopefully it'll be soon.

Glad to see a studio picked this up and plan on putting it in theaters. I saw Land at midnight opening day, so hopefully I can do the same for this one. So far the reviews have been pretty damn good. It's nice to know you can always count on George to deliver a quality film.

I'll still see it as I have great faith in the man, but like many of the filmmakers who were at their peak the same time Romero was (Landis, Argento, Carpenter) haven't been able to make a film as solid as their first efforts.

Never saw the Dark Half, but "Bruiser" was so bad that I didn't even finish it. It was just boring, and it had this awful "jazzy" music playing while people are being killed in certain scenes that completely was out of place. I'm a huge Romero fan though (I love all his zombie movies, and Martin as well.)

Diary is looking great, can't wait, but it probably won't hit theatres for months.

Ultimately none of leads were flat, which I can't say about any of the previous films. Of course there is a lot appealing about the previous performances, they helped make many of the lines so classic.
