I don't know, I remember cringing at a lot of the acting in Day. Granted, Bub was fantastic. I couldn't disagree more about Logan, though. I have to grit my teeth whenever he's on the screen.

Yeah, the acting in Day is NOT some of the best. It's really over the top by some people.

I disagree, and I think my reasons are perfectly legit. Why wouldn't they be over the top? For the record I think Nicholson is perfect in The Shining as well.

I don't understand what's wrong with over the top acting. It can be highly appropriate considering the situation.

Every Dead (if not every Romero) film is guilty of it anyway. It's a style of acting that I like a lot. Just like the acting in Lynch films, Kubrick too. Something about it hits a cord that just feels right.

Your reasons are legit, nobody is putting that into question. I was just stating my opinion. Believe me, i'm a huge defender of Romero's zombie films. "Dawn" is my favorite horror film of all time.

With Rhodes and Logan, I don't think they're particularly good actors. Whether or not I think their performances are actually "good", I do enjoy them a lot in the movie, and without them the movie wouldn't be the same. I'm glad that they're there.

but while Day's acting was annoying - it was the splat and gore that was memorable, the drill to the zombie, the reanimation of the headless zombie, shovel to the jaw, 'choke on it' - you name it Savini's work saved that film.

I think it elevated the film, but the core of it works for me. I do love the acting it and that's about half the reason why. The gore being the other half. It's a character unto itself, and one thing I've always enjoyed about his Dead series is how different the style is in each film.

With that said, I can't imagine anyone delivering this line as well as Joe Pilato: "I'm running this monkey farm now Frankenstein and I wanna know what the fuck you’re doing with my time!" It's all just opinion, I know.

I expect to get more of that classic Romero acting in Diary.

You make a good point, the lines are a bit hammy themselves. No matter what may not be "perfect" about the film, I love it because it makes the film what it is. I love all of Romero's zombie movies. They're just so...Zomb-tastic. Yes, that is a word.

As long as it's the FX/gore that makes me want to hurl, not the shaky camera movements.

I saw this in Toronto. I dug it. It has a Blair Witch-esque premise certainly, but these are film students using professional equipment to record the carnage. I didn't feel any shaky-cam dizziness.

I would rate it ahead of Day and Land in my book. This one is definitely not an action movie like Land. My friend who saw it with me thought the "social commentary" was a little too obvious and repeated - but I felt it blended into the story nicely.

The acting ranges from ok to competent and there is a nice amount of humor.

A lot of the film is stuff the characters are watching on the internet and many of these scenes are quite good and create some nice tension.

Is there a release date for this yet? I'm craving some more Romero zombie goodness.

Me too, just hope the FX are better than LAND OF THE DEAD.
Go back to the 60's FX if you have to watch the budget.

I agree. I think the acting (save for a few random, nameless military guys) was pretty damn good. I think the female lead could have been replaced with someone else, but other then that, what once was a film I watched every 2 years is something I watch every 3-4 months. Day has grown on me over the years, but Dawn remains my favorite horror movie.

Looks pretty cool, but a little too slick for my tastes. I like my Romero to look a little... dirtier, I suppose. I've heard mixed things about this flick, but they were either total love or pure vitriol, so at least people feel strongly about it either way. Regardless, it's new Romero with zombies, so naturally I'll be there opening night.

Very cool. A zombie flick from Romero is like your mom's home cooking. You may have had better and fancier, but nothing tastes quite like it.

I liked the trailer, but that last line just kills the whole thing, it seems lifted right out of bad DTV.

Something tells me that this isn't getting a wide release. I mean, it comes out on February 15th and they just released the trailer on January 11th? Either that or it's being pushed back.

Yeah, personally I've felt the Romero's Dead Films have gone downhill with each new installment but I still enjoy watching because I love the Dead Genre. This one looks interesting.

Land of the Dead received a 1200 screen release in June 2005.

Universal didn't release advertising materials till late April/early May as it was a last minute decision.

The film was originally supposed to be release at Halloween, but Universal nixed it due to the fact they could get the DVD out by then and make even more money.

And that was a decision made by a bigger studio.

I just think it's a stupid decision to release a horror film on Valentine's Day. Not a surprise considering this is the same studio who released Grindhouse on Easter weekend and The Mist on Thanksgiving weekend.
