She was part of the team going under cover as seen when she came up with the new identities. She was playing her part in the undercover and got burned by it.

But it really sounds like you went in expecting a balls out "summer action flick" and instead got a decent cop drama, therefore you formed a distaste for the movie before giving it a chance. So explaining the good qualities of it (or why it wasn't Bad Boys 2) would be like trying to explain to an avid non-smoker why people smoke... Not worth the time.

I'm both a Mann and Bay fan but I was more entertained with both Bad Boys. The original Bad Boys being my favorite. What's funny is that Vice needed more action while Bad Boys 2 had too much action. Both needed to be trimmed by 30 minutes though.

From: Rainy ass Seattle yes the weather sucks here, so do our sports teams.

What I am saying is, I know she was undercover with the team, I get that. But why risk it? Was she really doing anything pivotal to the plot or further the story? (besides to get caught) Why risk introducing your GF/wife. I just thought it was an easy cop out (no phun intended) for the character. Oh ya lets introduce this caracter to the bad guy, she isn't really doing much, lets have her get caught.
Anyways I am rambeling, you get my point though. I just didn't like it. Just my .02

In honor of Gilmore Girl, I will buy the Miami Vice DVD when it comes out knowing fully well the special uber deluxe edition is going to be released down the line. Then I'll buy that version too.

Predicting a major drop for this weekend as word gets out that it isn't Bad Boys 2, though all of this can be blamed on the marketing.

Vice won't be a huge hit here, but hopefully overseas it will do well, and that will make it a hit movie.

I myself thought it was really good. But did anyone notice the stuff in the trailer that never made it into the movie? In particular what seemed to be either a boat chase scene during the day or a boat race. Also, there's a quick snippet of a car spinning out of control on the highway. I guess these were cut to bring down the time. I'm not sure how long the original was before Mann made the final cuts. Maybe these scenes will see the light of day on the dvd release.

Saw this tonight, thought it was good. It's no HEAT, but still worth the price of admission. In my book there are 2 types of "good" action movies....Die Hard-good and Michael Mann/realistic-good, ie the shootout(s).

"Geoff Pevere is one of the worst critics..."
That may be, but I agree with him on Miami Vice. I saw it this weekend, and though no Heat, Miami Vice is right up my alley. To me, this isn't an action movie, it's a crime thriller.
That end gunfight...Sweet Zombie Jesus. I've never seen anything like that. Whoever posted about the realism of the gunshots--dead on. Wow. And the snipers at the beginning, the Barrett .50 caliber rifles--Jesus H. Christ.
Mann's narratives are getting more and more oblique and fragmentary. They remind me of later James Ellroy novels, and old hardboiled stuff like Hammett. No exposition for the audience's benefit. Also reminds me a bit of Mamet's Spartan. I think Mann is all about developing character by evoking, rather than explicity showing/telling. This is hard-boiled stuff, and I eat it up. Miami Vice is nice companion to Robbery Homicide Division. I will happily add it to my Michael Mann collection.

Who thinks Michael Mann likes Audioslave??
Anyway, I thought the film was alright. Not quite was I was expecting, but I wasn't really disappointed by that. It just seemed to be missing a lot of personality. Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell seemed to sleepwalk through the film.

Ok so I'm a huge fan of the tv show....it was a mann film for sure....but I guess theres really only one crockett and tubbs, especially when like so many have pointed out you have 0 character development.
Like someone else also said I too lol expected to hear In The Air Tonight while they drove during that night scene, funny enough the soundtrack has a um version of just that song on it.
At times I felt the show miami vice while watching it, a tv episode on a big budget was this films problem. But I think he took to many things for granted as a whole and the lovestory part did drag on to much throughout. Again like someone pointed out really it was just a few different episodes all rolled into one movie, its just you get little to no sense of who crockett and tubbs really are in the film. I know who my crockett and tubbs are...he shouldve spent at least some time showing me who these guys where to convince me.
After listening to the soundtrack some the Mogwai songs especially Auto Rock is when it FEELS like old miami vice, that song could be easily inserted into the original show. Couple other times the music also worked in that way certainly their other song too....
