The per screen average for PotC is the craziest part. 450 more screens than Sith, basically the same average. And with all the kids interested in PotC, this movie should do just as well today. Could be close to $150M weekend.

uh.....whoa.
I didn't think a sequel to a movie based on a theme park ride would ever beat the last Star Wars movie on the big screen's single day record.
Spider-Man's 4 year, 3-day record of $114 million is going to end this weekend.
But I won't be surprised if Spider-Man 3 beats POTC2's record next year.

Looks like Superman will do almost $25 million. I mean, when the new opening movie makes $55 million in one day and breaks all other records, you can't expect Superman to do much better. Warners should be happy that it didn't get completely crushed. I think it will reach over $200 million US and do pretty well overseas. But clearly, this Summer will belong to Johnny Depp...

Other than the impressive numbers of Pirates, I'm also surprised by the legs that Click is having (especially considering it's a Sandler film which usually open big and drop hard).

I think the Pirates overflow is helping other movies. You go to the movie and either it's sold out or there's a ginormous line for it.

As I mentioned in the "Guess the gross..." thread, some theaters in Vegas were sold out of most of their evening showings by 6pm (mostly by people who use Fandango).

Aren't saturday's usually bigger than Friday's? I thought i read that somewhere. If so, i can't imagine POTC doing more than $55 mill. on saturday, but if it does do more on Saturday it could have a shot at breaking the $114 Mill in only two days which is just insane.

Weren't there a bunch of midnight screenings on Friday that aren't going to be there on Saturday? I know my local theater had at least 3 post-midnight screenings on Friday and none on Satruday. I would think if anything Saturday will be smaller.
