2. DA VINCI CODE SONY 3,754 12,399,000 3,303 -55% 125,031,000
3. OVER THE HEDGE PARAMOUNT 4,093 10,425,000 2,547 -32% 67,173,000
4. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 3 - MI3 PARAMOUNT 3,053 2,581,000 845 -47% 111,846,000
5. POSEIDON WARNER BROS. 3,245 2,030,000 626 -47% 43,333,000
6. RV SONY 2,481 1,600,000 645 -25% 54,551,000
7. SEE NO EVIL LIONS GATE 1,270 967,000 761 -43% 7,708,000
8. JUST MY LUCK 20TH CENTURY FOX 1,604 682,000 425 -51% 12,854,000
9. UNITED 93 UNIVERSAL 769 312,000 406 -49% 29,349,000
10. ICE AGE 2: THE MELTDOWN 20TH CENTURY FOX 633 264,000 417 -34% 190,165,000

It appears Spider-Man's 3 day record total of $114 million will remain intact. X3 would have to make about $38 million today to equal that total. I highly doubt that will happen. It took about a 26% drop from Friday.

So, it looks like it dropped around 26-27% from Friday. Unless it sees a 19% increase on Sunday, Spider-man's record is safe.

True, but I wonder if maybe Fox will not release numbers until Tuesday so they can get all four days of the Memorial Day Weekend in the tally, thus bumping up the total. True, Spidey will remain untouched (thankfully) for the Fri-Sun totals, but it will make X3's numbers look more impressive at first glance.

^ I doubt it. No matter what, they can still hype the fact that X3 will have the new Memorial Day Weekend record.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/yearly/...yr=2006&p=.htm

I am guessing they are counting the sunday estimates since the numbers are different from the daily box office totals ?If that is the case,X3 will do over $120.It may be the first movie with a legit shot at finishing with $300 million.

I don't think X3 will get $300 million. I expect a big drop next weekend. It could reach $250 million, but I think that is being generous.

/\ I hope that's not the first movie to do so; what a slap that will be to comic fans and fans of the first two.

Yeah, I'm not sure if it will reach $250 million either.

That's like saying I don't think my 1990 Ford will break 60mph in under 6 seconds...it wasn't going to happen anyway. $300 million dollars isn't an every summer occurence, a couple of years a go there were a few, but that was a freak occurence. With the massive opening weekend the movie should ease into matching X2's $215 million, but I don't see that much upside from there.

Boxofficemojo is estimating a $26M Sunday. 40% drop between Friday and Sunday. That's not a great sign for even making $200M.

That's $101 million for the three-day weekend at least. Add another $15-20 million the flick is guaranteed to make tomorrow as well as a majority of the American public does not have school and/or work.

In 2003, X2 dropped 52% after it's first weekend. If X3 does the same next weekend, it'll make around $50 million nearly pushing the film's totals around $180 million (after Memorial Day and Tuesday-Thursday).

It's pretty rare for a movie to make $44M in one day so there is obviously going to be a drop off.How do movies usually do on memorial day anyway ?

X2 dropped 53%, then 57% in subsequent weeks. X3 could easily drop 60% between this week and next week. We all know that this film is about as impressive as Hulk was, and cannot be traveling on that great of word of mouth.

X3 has been getting mostly mixed reviews. You either love it or you hate it, there seems to be no in-between. Whereas Hulk was considered a piece of shit by everyone.

I thought Hulk was a very good movie and a masterpiece compared to the dreck that was X3.

Box Office Mojo says the budget for X3 is $210 million. I didn't think it was that high. Add in advertising and it is probably over $250 million.

That 27% drop on Saturday isn't a good sign for longevity. Spider-Man opened at $39 million on Friday and still managed to have an increase on Saturday. I think X3's drop next weekend will be in the 60% range.

X3 is doing just fine, no matter how the haters spin it it had a hell of an opening weekend and will easily equal X2's take, which is pretty good for part 3 of a series. It sure as hell is no "Hulk."

Those are pretty harsh words since Hulk was not only the worst big budget comic book movie ever, it was also one of the worst movies in recent years. I can't imagine X3 being worse.

When figuring the pecentage drop for 2nd week, do you take this Monday into account for the opening weekend total. Just seems that even a film with legs will have a higher than normal drop if you compare a 4 day holiday weekend with the following normal 3 day weekend.

I guess it depends on how much of the $44 million was from Thursday midnight showings.
