Just got this from Hollywood-Elsewhere.com:

"The opening-weekend predictions on X-Men 3, dead certain to be the #1 film over the coming Memorial Day weekend, are being modified. I was hearing a week and a half ago that the four-day total could be way way up there. Now Variety is saying that The DaVinci Code "will suck away a chunk of the adult audience and will likely keep X-Men from reaching the boffo $85.6 million bow of X2 three years ago. Fox will be very pleased if it reaches that figure over four days, instead of the three it took X2"

Some guy at box office mojo is saying $40 million Friday, but doesn't sound confirmed yet. If so it will make $100 million over holiday weekend.

Amazing take. Although the X-men films tend to be slightly frontloaded.

Why does it say X3's total is 234,230,000? Still, just a jaw dropping total if true

I can't believe it made $44 million yesterday. I thought it would be longer before Spider-Man's 3-day record would be broken, but it looks like X3 has a great chance of doing that. Too bad such a crappy movie is going to have a huge opening. I think Spidey 3 will probably break this record when it opens next year though.

I think this will put a bit of pressure on Warner Bros. If a bad movie like X-Men 3 can open this well, I'm sure people will be expecting similar numbers from Superman Returns' opening weekend.

Considering the huge amount of tickets it sold Friday, I'm not sure how much it can go up today. But it still has a shot of beating Sith's single day record of $50 million.

I don't think the remaining 2 heavyweights (POTC 2, Superman) will beat this opening. But they may have longer legs, which could still put them ahead of the final totals. I have a feeling X3 will be extremely front loaded. This has guaranteed it will join Da Vinci Code as 2 of the $200 million club when their run is over.

X3 is going to be very front-loaded. I'd be amazed if it didn't drop by around 5-10% on Saturday because of this. This is what happened to HP4 when it opened with $40 million, and dropped 8.5% on Friday.

If it drops 10% each day, it still ends up with 120 million dollars for Fri-Sun.

I agree about Pirates, but not about Supes. Pirates leans more to the family movie type crowd. It's not something you see at midnight. On the other hand, we're talking about the first Superman movie in years and while it may also cater to the family movie crowd, it's also an "event" movie like X3/Star Wars/LOTR movies are so I wouldn't quite disqualify it just yet.
