I pretty much loved every part of this movie... except for the last scene, which was a little much. I know that was done to tie up the loose thread and to end the movie on a somewhat positive note, but it was unnecessary.

Emotionally, the film really ran the gamut (tragic, funny, bittersweet, redemptive), and the "violence begets violence" motif was practically Shakespearean. I also liked the fact that (for the most part) there were few obvious wire stunts. I hate wires.

Anyway, I really liked it. If this is Jet Li's last martial arts role, I think it was a good note to go out on. It is his best film since Fist of Legend (the original, subtitled version).

I watched it last night and was very impressed. I have to say that it ranks as one of my favorite Jet Li's movies along with OUATIC I and II and Fist of Legend.

As soon as a proper DVD is released for Fist of Legend (uncut and subtitled), then I can watch Fearless and Fist of Legend as a two part saga.

Even though Fearless was not sold as a prequel to Fist of Legend or Fist of Fury a lot of fans of those films will see it as that. I'm wondering why they didn't keep it consistent with those films even though they were fictitious. I'm sure they took creative license with the real storyline here, too.

Spoiler:
The Japanese character he fought was totally different than the ones Chen Zhen fought in FoL/FoF. He was actually a good guy as opposed to the jerk he was in the other two films. He also had a son in FoL and in Fearless he dies w/o a family. In real life he had a few offsprings. The fight on the stage reminded me of the fight in FoL where Chen Zhen went to the Japanese dojo and fought several attackers. It looked like a shortened version of the same fight choreography.

I know this is a huge bump but I just watched this for the second time on CinemaxHD. This was a wonderful movie I thought. It's not often I get sucked into moive.
