Still, Brandon Gray gives NEGATIVE report about Batman Begins box office start. I don't think there will be too many people at Batman Begins 2.

Shrek 2 had a slow/low box office take and then bloomed with word of mouth. Just because something doesn't open huge doesn't mean it wont get viewers. Look at austen powers. The first film did small numbers and the second film blew up. Why? DVD sales. I would say that a lot of folks were hesitant to see Batman Begins because of those past Batman films and how bad they were. Add in those who wait for DVD to watch a film, they'll be in line to see Batman Begun.

Box office numbers are still rather good overall, as seen in your little article. You're attempt to prove your point failed. please try again.

As for what you said about Batman Begins, You still haven't addressed to the point on why you feel that Batman should directly translate from book to film, but yet you praise Hulk on being a good film and have it be even worse of a transition from book to film. Jesus Christ... "Begins" was probably one my best theatrical experiences since "Trilogy Tuesday".

It's a wonderful feeling when your expectations about a film are truly exceeded. :)

it made $40 million. money aside, i think everyone would agree memento was an unexpected success.

Everyone, just do like what I did last night and ignore this guy from here on out. We don't want an entire thread to be ruined, yet again, by someone like this.

25 million domestically! 40 million worldwide. Good film, but not a sleeper hit or unexpected success, not eve close in my opinion. Maybe if I was drunk, 40 million worldwide would seem like a success.

i don't need to be drunk to know that there was little anticipation for this movie and when it came out it built a good reputation because audiences loved it. that's an unexpected success in my book. any lauded film that comes out of nowhere and builds a good reputation is a "sleeper". i'm not talking about money. that's what "money aside" means. no, i'm talking about success. and it succeeded beyond expectations.

It almost seems to me (and of course, I am making an assumption here, but based on this statement) that you read A LOT of glowing reviews on this board before seeing it. You had your interest in this movie peaked waaaaaayyyyyyy higher than perhaps most here who saw it, and I think for that reason it was a let down. You somehow imagined it to be bigger and better than maybe it really was. My suggestion is forget about this movie for now, go watch some other stuff with an open mind, and maybe when this gets released on DVD in October or November or whenever, rent it, borrow a copy from a friend, watch it on STARZ, or something, with a bit more of an open mind. Hopefully you won't hate it as bad, and might come to like it.

And of course, there isn't a single movie out there who will please everybody who sees it. Even the greatest movies will find it's audience of critics, so if you remain one of those, I wouldn't fault you.

And, yes, Sin City was a damn impressive movie.

Great reviews, positive buzz, and that means Batman Begins has failed? I'm willing to bet BB won't have the 70% weekend to weekend drop that Hulk had...THAT is the sign the film has failed with audiences, not a weak opening weekend.

As for your first comment, that Batman must follow the story to a tee...that's really, really damn funny coming from a guy who lauds the Burton Batman films as the holy grail. I mean, Christ, those films make Batman Begins look like a perfect adaptation. Care to explain why you dislike Begins for not being faithful, but don't hold that against the Burton films, cause let me tell you...those films are VERY unfaithful to the source material.

Not to mention there is nearly 70 years of Batman history in comic books. Now how would you even begin to pick which artist's and writer's interpretation of Batman to go with to make the faithful adaptation? People wanted a Frank Miller Batman on the screen ever since the 80's, and especially ever since Year One. But what about the Neil Adams period? And why not just go back to the original Bob Kane stuff? I doubt anybody wants to see the campy crap DC got into in the 60's, but there are some powerful Batman stories in virtually every decade of the character's exitence that could pull off well in the movie.

What I liked about the movie is they seemed to do their own interpretation, while staying true to the character. The creators of this movie did what any respectable writer/artist team in Batman's history did in turning points for the comic book series.
