Evil Dead 2 is not a remake of The Evil Dead.
You know how ED1 ends with the "Dead-Cam" flying around the woods and arriving at Bruce's face? Well, 9 minutes into ED2, that same shot happens.
The first 9 minutes of ED2 are supposed to be a "retelling" of ED1, and everything after that is what happens next.
They didn't have the rights to show footage from ED1, so they just refilmed it (and simplified it by removing the extra characters in the process).

Not a great idea. Sam should just use some of his Spidey money, and make EVIL DEAD 4. That's the film everyone is waiting for.

Evil Dead 4 or bust. There is no reason for this 'grand idea'
to ever have been given life. I will not spend money to endorse this ridiculous artist's indulgence at the theatres, nor will I rent it, won't PPV, and if it's on cable I'll make sure the TV is off that month....hell, I may even cancel whatever cable channel picks it up. Sheesh.

Oh shut up, all of you guys are going to see this none the less, no matter what. Also, I just hope that for Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash that they don't use the actor they used in the remake unless it is Bruce.

So no, I'm not going to run out and see this. I, like most of the people here would rather see an Evil Dead 4 than a remake that will mostly likely suck.
No Raimi directing, and I'm sure the studio will run out and try to get a bunch of the new "in" people to portray Ash and the gang, which equals a big pile of crap waiting to happen.

'WW' saw all the trade articles about Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert remaking "Evil Dead" the other day and drops in a follow-up rumour:
"I was one of the several dozen that submitted a Freddy vs Jason sequel treatment to New Line back in November 2003. It ended up that one of the execs there had his treatment - "Freddy vs Jason vs Ash" - met most favorably (saves starting up another payroll for an outsider you see?) and it was the one that was all set to go. Then things changed...
They began negotiations with Sam Raimi. I understand that as soon as Raimi saw that there was some interest in his Evil Dead franchise, he started_thinking about other possibilities for the character and_the remake idea was born out of that, and at the end of the day - money talked. He gets a bigger stake in ownership this way, whereas NL wanted a 'hand your character over to us' handshake. They were trying to work out a way they could both win, but it just didn't come off.
Anyway,_Senator International is doing the new series of "Evil Dead" movies. And nope, Bruce Campbell - besides a cameo I assume - isn't going to playing Ash. Not sure whether that's the financing parties decision or Raimi's. Guessing the suits made the call. One name being thrown about for the part of Ash is a guy named Justin Theroux from "Charlies Angels: Full Throttle" and "Mulholland Drive". Will be interesting to see how the fans take to him and the new start in general".

I've never been a fan of the "get someone who looks like the guy he's replacing" strategy, aka "The James Franciscus Scenario", but I do like Justin Theroux.
I don't really have a problem with this concept. If it's good, everyone here will be eating their words and buying the DVD, and if it's bad you can just ignore its existence and keep watching the originals the way you always have.

I'm absolutely terrified of the possibility that the Holy Trilogy will be tarnished, but I have no doubt I will be first in line on opening day. And likely, the day after.

I guess my only real problem with a remake of Evil Dead is it jeopardizing a Raimi-directed, Campbell-staring sequel. Seeing as Raimi seems wrapped up in Spiderman 3 which will take him out of directing anything else for 3 more years, its starting to seem less and less likely anyway. As for the remake itself, look, its not like the original Dawn of the Dead or Texas Chainsaw Massacre have been lessened in impact by the remakes (I actually liked the DOTD remake) and if anything it brings new viewers to discover the originals. Ultimately, we really don't know if Raimi even has any interest in directing a new Evil Dead, so this might be as close as were going to get. Oh, and Justin Theroux is actually a pretty damn good choice for Ash. Love that boardroom/golf club freakout scene in Mullholland Drive

I think Nicholas Brendan could play the part of a young Ash. I still don't like the idea of a remake. Bruce Campbell made the movie what it was. His mannerisms and the way he talks were just perfect. As someone else pointed out, it is the campiness that makes it the cult hit that it is. I am voting for ED4 or FvJvA instead. Boo remakes of movies that are fine the way they are.

I still think you guys are still going to see it but you guys aren't going to say you did because you don't want to look weak in front of all these cool thread posters. Also, then you guys will say you were there opening day if the reviews show up good. You guys are sick.

COULD THIS BE THE NEW ASH?

Moviesonline is reporting via Dheatre.com that actor Seann William Scott may be tapped to play Ash in the Evil Dead remake that we reported on last week. Here is some of what Moviesonline found out:
It is now being reported by Dheatre.com that actor Seann William Scott is in the running to play Ash in the re-make of Evil Dead. I am not sure whether this is good or bad. I still want Bruce Campbell to play the role, and I dont think anyone can replace him in this role. Seann is a talented actor who plays good quirky roles, but please, nobody can top Bruce Campbell.
