You really need to revisit The Evil Dead, Solid Snake PAC. Bad acting notwithstanding, it plays very serious. Your comments tend to sound as if you're mixing your memories of it with that of Evil Dead 2 (which had its tongue planted firmly in cheek).

it is a serious film but...it comes off a bit differently than a full on serious horror cuz of what Raimi had at the time. It's obviously a horror film.
I don't mean to say it's like ED2. God no...ED2 is very much it's own beast and owes nothing to no one cuz it's giving it to you full on. And AoD is AoD.

Looks like it might be one of those rare remakes that actually work.

If not for this thread, I wouldn't realize that I too use the "reverse" option.

I always thought ED2 was the film Raimi wanted to make with ED1. He simply didnt have the resources nor the wherewithal at that point in his career to pull it off.

Yeah It looks like a lot of people have to go back to the original and give it a re-watch....it's without a doubt meant to be serious.

That is correct. Besides people not knowing that the first Evil Dead was played serious; they forget that Evil Dead II was a remake of Evil Dead I.

I know the original inside and out, so I don't need to give it a rewatch. I understand that the first one was meant to be serious, but I can complain about this one taking itself way too seriously, because it seems from the trailer, that they borrow just as much, if not more, from Evil Dead 2 as they do from Evil Dead. I've always enjoyed these films because they've mixed slapstick in with the horror. This just looks like a shitty Cradle of Filth video to me. The same bullshit modern horror look, the same attempts to 'shock' us with things we haven't seen before...We've seen it it all and we've seen it done better. This ,to me is an unneccessary remake, as most are, and I don't think I'll be rushing out to see it.

ED2 wasn't what Raimi meant to do w/ ED.

It's not a remake, the beginning is a recap of the original, and the only reason it exists is because they couldn't get the rights to just use footage from the original. All the characters except Ash and Linda were cut from the opening to save time and money.

As far as this one, I'm intrigued at least.
