I haven't seen the OC, but Mischa Barton seems too young to play Lois. The fellow apparently playing Clark/Supes looks alright from that picture... hard to judge his build though. Hopefully he's a well built fellow and can put on the muscle for Supes.

Edit: Rather slender fellow from the other pictures on his site. But bulked up, he certainly looks the part.

And Topher Grace

Amen. I thought they tapped him to play Superman already. I guess that fell through?

God, is this going to be some lame ass Superboy movie instead of Superman? If so, forget it all. I don't have a problem with him being young for a while, but if this is the route they are going for the whole movie, why aren't they just transfering the Smallville cast to the big screen? Leave the teen angst on the small screen. Seems like a waste of time otherwise.

Ugh. Unibrow.
Only good thing about that rumor is Topher.
Not sure about Mischa Barton as I don't watch the OC and I don't think I've seen her anywhere else. She looks like the lesbian girl who had a thing for Jessie on Once&Again. Is that her?

I think Welling would make a good Supes. Some wonder if he has the ability to lead a feature film, but with the right director and cast, I think he can do it. Christoper Reeve, God bless his soul, wasn't exactly the second coming of Laurence Olivier either.

But Popcorn, the closest you'll get to Welling as Superman are these pictures. He certainly has the look.

Enjoy! Welling is locked up in Smallville, and I don't think he really wants to do it.

Welling being locked up in smallville isn't really a factor since they would begin filming through off time anyways if they really wanted him. I wasn't ever really on the welling wagon, but atleast he has the smallville experience in those shoes.

Well, the problem is Welling has already stated in interviews he has no desire to wear the tights. I also remember him saying something to the effect that anyone that tries to fill Reeve's shoes, will come up way short.

But he also said that he just signed a deal to do something big at the teen choice awards around the same time that word of mouth that he was up for the role was floating around. we may have been fools for connecting the two, but you got to admit that it was pretty much common sense to do it when it was mentioned.

Yeah, if they were going to get someone from the OC they should have at least gotten Rachel Bilson.

Yep, looks like they are going the teenie bopper route. What a shame. Best thing we can hope for now is a killer story to make up for the poor casting.

Mischa Barton would be a disaster (could anyone take her seriously as a hardnosed reporter?)

My short list for Lois:

Rose Byrne
Zooey Dechanel
Eliza Dushku
Kate Beckinsale
Katie Holmes (But she's doing Batman Begins, so she's out)

While this may sound like a threadcrap, I honestly think that there should not be another Superman movie for a while. While he wasn't a great actor in everything, Christopher Reeve is pretty much irreplacable in my mind. The only one who seems to come close is Welling, and he's obviously out.

They need to wait a few more years. This just isn't the right time.

There's no time like the present. I don't see how waiting a few more years would change anything.

I just think that right now with the recent occurance of his death, the populace(myself included) will have Reeve set in their mind as Superman. Replacing him so quickly after his death could be interpreted as wrong and draw unintended spite.

Those pictures of Brandon Routh remind me a lot of John Haymes Newton who was Superboy in Season 1 of that show. Hopefully Routh is a much better actor.

I sincerely hope they're joking about Mischa Barton though. I love The O.C., but she's easily the worst part of that show. Not to mention she really doesn't look like Lois Lane.

This casting "news" seems to be changing every week. I won't be entirely convinced until WB releases an official statement and/or Bryan Singer says so in an interview.
