Berdanelli's review seemed to indicate that he didn't care for the genre when it was first around during the 70s, so it's logical he wouldn't like it now.

i think it's a logical assessment given the parameters: an amateur mimicking amateurs. it's as they say, "shit in, shit out".

Saw this last night & absolutely LOVED IT. But I am a huge Zombie fan anyway & think he is one of the truly really "good" guys out there. Met him & his wife a few years back & they even came out & had some beers with us & some fans.

Anwyay, from a lot of posts here it seems like there are a lot of people who just aren't horror fans that went to see this film & I just don't know what they were expecting. This is a fantastic throw-back retro horror film. Great characters, great schlock performances & damn is Sheri Moon hot.

Probably my favorite film of this summer.

What really strikes me as interesting from the extras on the House DVD and stuff on the website is how down to earth both Zombie and his wife seem. While Sheri is no award winner, it's clear that she is doing a pretty good job acting if you've ever seen another clip of her. Both she and Rob have very good speaking manners and handle themselves maturely, or so it seems.

saw this the other day by myself-

completely different from House of 1k corpses, which almost had a fun-house horror-show type feeling. devils rejects takes it up a notch, and is dirty, disgusting, blood-soaked murderfest, with no good guys in sight. This movie pulls no punches, and zombie acheives his primary goal, of showing you something so graphic, desensitizing, and filth-stained that you exit the threatre feeling dirty, drained, and just doubtful of the human race in general. it made me want to go home and take a shower. over the top movie. B-

Saw it with Pops today. We both liked it. I really liked the first one - he never saw it.

When the title sequence started, I thought to myself "this is going to be great". GREAT? Nah. But it was enjoyable, tasteful, dirty, sinful fun. It's the voyeristic alternative to turning on news that doesn't concern me.

Spoiler:
After the capture/torture scene, I love how the characters changed. They're bad guys. But the last moments gave them moments of nobility.

My dad got a kick out of all the older actors. Seems like EVERYONE was from SOMEWHERE else. It was always like "hey, it's so and so from so and so". Hey, that woman is from Three's Company. Hey, that guy is a stand up comic. Hey, it's the guy from The Hills Have Eyes. And it went on and on. Pretty neat. Since he hadn't seen the first, when you-know-who showed up near the end, he got a bit lost. That was the only real uncontained reference to the first movie. You could easily pick up on everything else.

Spoiler:
It's funny, when they first escaped the fire, I felt it was sort of a cop-out to set up the sequel. However, as they were playing freebird and flashing the images across, I was almost looking forward to seeing these characters again (though assuming these were flashbacks, you would think they would have at least had the mother in them or maybe they were meant to be the future). Then I got pissed with seeing them die like Butch & Sundance almost. A very good job by Zombie of making the viewer start to like such miserable characters.

I agree
Spoiler:
I didn't want to feel sympathy for Baby when she was running from William Forsythe, but it was interesting to see an evil killer turned into the very thing they were hunting in the previous movie.

I don't think any critic is more credible than another. It's all just someone's opinion.

funny, a few people walked out
Spoiler:
right as free bird started, thinking the movie was over, boy were they wrong

good flick, did what it was supposed to do.
and a funny quote from our paper that gave it 1 star (gave high tension 0 stars)
"In fact, about the only woman who isn't shown topless is Sheri Moon Zombie, proving, I guess, that there are advantages to being married to the director.

Of course, if Zombie were really looking out for her, she'd be in another film altogether. "

Two questions:

Does anyone know what it cost them to obtain all the soundtrack rights?

Is Sid Haig African American....or was that dude his brother in the buddy sense?

I'm pretty sure the meant " brother " in the buddy-sense.

I liked "House of 1,000 Corpses" and would give "The Devil's Rejects" ***/****. I loved the 1970s/drive-in/exploitation look and feel of the film. The acting was solid. Too bad Karen Black was not in this one (I loved her in "House....").

I noticed one couple brought their daughter who looked to be about 6 years old. These people are nuts. I would never let a young child see this movie.

That is how I felt as well....until I remembered Baby is a sadistic freak and got exactly what she deserved.

Funniest thing ever. Actually saw a couple bring in a kid tonight that was so young, they got an orange kid seat for him to sit in while he watched the movie. MY GOD!
I went to see Rejects yesterday, there were 2 children a couple of rows in front of me with their parents....around the age of 3 or 4, I was about to walk up to them and go 'Great Parenting....you should be proud of yourself'. But I'm sure that wouldn't have accomplished much......Great damn movie by the way!

Actually, if you read the character bios on the website, it reveals that it is his half brother.

Spoiler:
right after Moselely and Mr. 45 made friends with the chick from Mallrats.

Why are you even posting in this thread? You've only see half of Zombies first film. You can't really have a valid opinion about a film you haven't even seen, and you certainly don't have any business commenting on the sequel.

Julie Walker 07-25-05 08:58 PM

Three people left durring the police station sequence right after Mr. 45 meets some bush.

It was two girls and a guy, they were leaning over and pushing the guy to leave durring the scene. He looked at them like "What?"..and kept on watching. Then finally by the next scene,he reluctantly got up and they all left, since the girls looked very upset by the film, lol.

But I figure if they were too disturbed, offended and incredibly fragile that that scene pushed them too there breaking point. Then they probably would have had a complete mental breakdown when the clan was being tortured in graphic prolonged fashion near the end. So it was probably best for them to leave;)

Saw it today... OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!

A truly great film. It was beautifully shot, intensely acted, and very intelligently written. This is defiantly the type of film I would love to see more of. Unapologetic, balls out action, mixed with quirky off beat humor that makes some laugh and others feel very uncomfortable.

Bill Moseley... Can't say enough about his portrayal of Otis. Intense is a fucking understatement! His deliveries, in particular the scene with Banjo & Sullivan, are passionate, terrifying, and completely believable.

Every actor seemed to dive head first into their roles… Not a single one, IMO, seemed to be overacting or hamming it up for the characters. And in a flick that’s so over-the-top, that could have easily happened.

Leslie Easterbrook did a hell of a job stepping into Mother Firefly’s twisted shoes, dug in deep, made it her own, and never made me think… “Hey that’s the woman from Police Academy.”

William Forsythe is fucking insane… I would have hated to be in his head during his preparation period. But hey, the character’s an Elvis fan so he can’t be all bad…

Ken Foree, had the show stealing role. If nothing else comes out of this film, it needs to be him getting more work in bigger roles. A hell of an actor that, like Leslie, is known mainly for one character. Well I hope people take notice of his work in this one and realize he’s not there because he’s the “guy from Dawn of the Dead.” But rather the fact that he’s an actor that took a character and made him believably come to life.

Sid Haig once again puts on a commanding memorable performance. Hammering home why he’s a legend in this industry. At face value Spaulding is sadistic, angry, perverted clown that hates kids & loves fucking fat chicks… Yet somehow by the end of the flick you have compassion for the guy and want to see him (along with Otis & Baby) pull through… At least I did… That’s how a good story comes together. That of course has a lot to do with Rob’s smart writing and direction.

And of course I’m not gonna forget Sheri… She is defiantly going to break out as one of the better actresses of this generation. Mrs. Zombie puts a more serious face on Baby in this one. The character seemed more passionate and realistic. I thought the interactions between her, Otis & Spaulding were very dead on as far as dysfunctional families go. Between the fighting and ball breaking going on, it gave me a chuckle. How many of us haven’t gotten into a “Fuck you!” fight with either a sibling or a friend?

The Devil’s Rejects has smart, sharp, biting dialogue that moves the pacing of the film without feeling forced… And, IMO, one of the most beautifully filmed endings I’ve seen in a long time… I would recommend this film to everyone. And if that’s not clear enough, I REALLY FUCKING LIKED THIS FILM!
