*yawn*

Neither of those films are from the same genre. Both of those films were made by directors who have been working in the movie business for 10+ years.

If you want movies from the same genre, see what the reviewer said about Last House on the Left, From Dusk Till Dawn, or Natural Born Killers.

I await Zombie's next film. Never been a fan of his music.

Saw 'Rejects for the second time, and liked it even more! I didn't notice the musical saturation the first time. 'Rejects was as well-orchestrated as Boogie Nights or The Rules of Attraction.

7-Foot-Plus Actor Matthew McGrory Dies

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Matthew McGrory, the deep-voiced 7-foot-plus actor who moved from appearances on Howard Stern's radio show to a high-profile role as a gentle giant in the movie "Big Fish," has died. He was 32.

McGrory died Tuesday at his home in Los Angeles, said director Drew Sky, who was working with him on his current movie, a biopic of wrestler-turned-actor Andre the Giant. Paramedics determined he died of apparent natural causes, police said.

McGrory, who had size 29 1/2 shoes, appeared on Stern's show in the 1990s and received other attention from the national media even before he became an actor. He attended law school and showed up in music videos before starting his career in Hollywood B-movies.

He played a human Sasquatch in 2001's "Bubble Boy," an alien in "Men In Black II" (2002) and Tiny in the Rob Zombie horror movies "House of 1000 Corpses" (2003) and its sequel released this year, "The Devil's Rejects."

His big break in Hollywood came in 2003 with Tim Burton-directed "Big Fish." Ewan McGregor's character refuses to be intimidated by the size of McGrory's Karl character, walking up to shake his hand.

Sky said he first met McGrory at a bar in 2000 and had been filming "Andre: Heart of the Giant" on and off for six months. He said that McGrory, who was from West Chester, Pa., felt a connection with the man he was playing, wrestler and "The Princess Bride" actor Andre Rousimmoff, who died in 1993.

"He felt the same way, that he would do anything just to be a person of regular size one day a week, where people don't have to stare at him, where he could go see a regular movie and walk down the street," Sky said.

McGrory's family and girlfriend declined immediate comment.

The second time I saw the film, some metalheads in the back of the theater were laughing at everything, INCLUDING the whole hotel sequence, which isn't meant for laughs.

if you have a real sick sense of humor, there is humor in that scene.

paradicelost 08-12-05 12:59 PM

I definitly didn't laugh through the whole movie. I will freely admit that some segments were hard for me to watch.
And sometimes even the most disturbing of scenes can be funny if you don't care for the characters. I know in the original TCM, i wanted everyone of the damn kids to die a horrible, horrible death. They were just very annoying characters. And i can understand how some people may have had a hard time feeling for those characters. Espicially after the whole 10 minute(or least it seemed like it)conversation about riding the mechanical bull.

I was lucky enough to catch this at an unlikely theater while on vacation and I must say....I didn't think Zombie was gonna come like that!! Just a rough, rugged, and raw piece of monsterous art! Given some of the interviews that he gave while filming this, I knew what he was going for with this one, but this even managed to be a bit too mean-spirited even for MY tastes! But I'd still recommend it. Mostly because it's something you hardly ever get to see these days.

Like many of you have already mentioned, the acting in this flick was unexpected. Ken and Sheri were such pleasant surprises, but my award goes to:

Exactly. I barely remembered Otis from the previous movie, but here he sure as hell gets known! The "gun-stash" sequence (Which I'm assuming you're referring to) was the scene that I could just not get out of my head when the movie was long over. He was just so gyadamn fightening here!

I've only seen HOUSE/CORPSES once and was faded, but--Again, I didn't care for it. But if Lions Gate came out with a 2-pack of this when REJECTS hits dvd, I'd definetly pick it up since I managed to get newfound fascination
of the Firefly family thanks to this one!

I loved this movie. And that's saying alot considering I hated about 90% of House of 1000 Corpses. I thought Zombie did a terrible job with that one, and it just looked cheap. Not low budget in a cool Texas Chainsaw way, but cheap in a Dead Hate the Living way.

But Rejects improves upon House in every way. Honestly I can't think of another series where I made such a strong jump from hating the original to loving the followup. The motel scenes were intense, but the Forsythe stuff near the end was brilliant. The "who's the psycho here" tone, loved it. Visually this one is worlds better as well.

I agree with you 100%. I hated the first one but loved the second one. One thing i will say though, him being a musician helped the movie a lot. The music that played during scenes was perfect for the scene and was very well integrated into the movie especially
Spoiler:
The Freebird playing when you thought they would get away, I love this song and thought it was perfect for the scene with the slow motion and everything for their last stand

Is this movie still in theaters? I can't seem to locate a theater in Michigan that is still playing it.

popest 08-20-05 07:15 PM

....Loved it.....'Thelma & Louise', ..Nowhere! the ending was great....if u ever divorce her Rob, I'm interested

Original Desmond 09-11-05 04:16 AM

Just saw this movie

No where near as brutal and shocking as i expected though i am pretty desensitized in this regard.

Was a fun movie which kept my interest. Definite improvement of House 1000 corpses

Yep was great seeing Michael berryman from hills have eyes, now David Hess having a cameo would have topped it off :)

SPiRAL 09-11-05 01:55 PM

Is this playing in any dollar theaters yet, none around here.

Rival11 11-09-05 08:23 PM

Excellent movie, just awesome. Mikewendt pretty much said everything I wanted to (and it's no bs....this films atmosphere, sets, and detail are off the map).

I couldn't believe how I was actually starting to feel bad for baby at the end, even after all the shit that was shown before, I didn't want these assholes to die for some reason. Go ahead and laugh but that's great filmmaking, I don't give a shit what anyone says. Rob Zombie MORE than proved himself with this film.

High Tension and The Devils Rejects now take the #1 spot for my all time favorite horror films.

Man, I hope I keep getting spolied like this and here's hoping that Aja pulls off the hills have eyes remake.

is anyone enjoying this movie more now that it is available on DVD? I just watched the DVD the other night(I saw the movie in theaters as well), and I enjoyed it even more than I did in the theater. Lions Gate surprised me with the job they did on the DVD. transfer is solid, the extras are awesome, gotta love that 2 hour documentary/behind the scenes on Disc 2 :)

Spiderbite 11-11-05 12:59 AM

Watched the film last night. Good transfer & audio. Far as the movie itself...story line was weak but as a whole the movie was well made. I liked seeing all of the 70's/80's "B" movies actors. I thought all of them did a good job and probably did better than a bunch of unknowns.

The acting all around was good with the exception of Sherri Moon Zombie. She couldn't deliver a line to save her life. Guess it is a good thing she is married to the director/writer otherwise she would never see any work except as a piece of ass...and man what an ass!

I must say that I definitely felt dirty after watching this film. The only film recently I have watch that made me feel this way was The Passion Of The Christ. Some may find the comparison strange but I was definitely reminded of that film after completeing Rejects. They both just feel like they punch you in the gut the whole time and never let up. Then you feel grimy after watching every long gruesome scene. I really don't get off on seeing people tortured but for those that do I can see them loving this film. I felt that Rejects had the more interesting storyline of the two but it was still weak. I see better films in Zombie's future if he will think about directing someone's stories.

Spoiler:
The final "Bonnie and Clyde" ending was too damn drawn out. I thought I was going to fall asleep before Freebird was finally over. I personally would have liked to see them all killed by the brutal torture that was done to their victims...or at least one of them. I disliked Tiny showing up at just the exact moment Baby was going to bite it (but I hate that cliche' in all films). I also thought it was pretty silly that Tiny was able to save Spaulding & Otis after their entire room was engulfed in flames for 10 minutes. Amazing...surrounded by fire and not even a lick of flame comes near them. Also...why the hell would the bounty hunters take the time to put a potato sack on Baby?
Little things like these threw me off the picture but it was still well made. But like The Passion Of The Christ, I have no interest in watching the movie repeatedly.

The music was well chosen but sometimes it stood out too much. At times I thought I was watching Boogie Nights or wondering if Zombie was competing with Tarantino.

All in all, very good second effort. Zombie is getting closer to his future classic.

After House of 1000 Corpses sucked so bad, I expected this one to do exactly the same. Thankfully, it did anything but suck.I loved this movie. I've watched it three times since Tuesday, and I'm going to watch the doc today.

It's like one of the above posters said -- I felt dirty after watching this. Dirty and a little uneasy. I haven't felt this way since I saw the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre for the first time, and I LOVED it.

Here's hoping that there's a third film in the series.

happycamper 11-11-05 11:03 AM

I must be the only person who absolutely LOVES HO1KC. I love it so much that when I first saw Devils Rejects, I was really upset that the tables were turned on the Firefly clan. I was rooting for them from the beginning and did not enjoy seeing 'justice' brought down upon them.

I agree with this 100000%. Was going to post the exact same thing. I guess that's NOT the reaction Rob Zombie wanted as he says on the commentary that
Spoiler:
everyone cheered at this part in the theater when the cop got killed by Tiny

Would've liked this movie WAY more had what you said happened.

Or like me, they are just going short on sleep to watch it over and over again. I haven't had the movie too far from my DVD player since I got it. I really love this movie, especially the ending sequence. It all blows me away every last time I see it.

dadaluholla 11-18-05 10:12 PM

Got the unrated dvd today from Columbia House. Not bad. A little boring and not nearly as disturbing or creepy as I had hoped, but still a few decent scenes. I'd give it a solid C-

I'd give Sherri Moon Zombie's ass an A+.

'30 Days in Hell' is one of the best behind the scenes docos I've seen.

Yeah, me to. I get goosebumps and the hair on the back of my neck stands up during that ending... I've watched it three times so far. Excellent movie!
