My thought was if there was one they could lose, that would be
the one. However, of the movies I saw in the catogory LOTR
was at least as good as the rest.

Sean Penn? Best Actor?
He's the front runner right?

jasonbird 02-29-04 10:57 PM

Standing O?

jasonbird 02-29-04 11:02 PM

YES!

Scot1458 02-29-04 11:02 PM

Return of the King.

**** it.

jasonbird 02-29-04 11:02 PM

LOTR:ROTK, Titanic and Ben Hur tied with 11 wins!

onebyone 02-29-04 11:04 PM

Sean Penn?

I feel deflated.

Frank TJ Mackey 02-29-04 11:05 PM

good for Sean Penn. long overdue.

he's given many great performances and that's
why he got a standing O.

I respect Jackson and the LOTR trilogy, it is a remarkable achievement, but to give it every award is really a joke.

It screws over all the nominees this year. Best Screenplay? Please, that's ridiculous.

What about the last 2 LOTR films, the first one should've won big awards, but they save it for last.

Oh well, can't have em all your way.

outcastja 02-29-04 11:07 PM

Time for Curb

fumanstan 02-29-04 11:08 PM

Dissapointed in most of the awards, particularly Best Actor.

Giles 02-29-04 11:08 PM

WOW, what a dull and predictable show.

the best parts where the beginning (Billy Crystal montage) and the TRIPLETS OF BELVILLE song.

jasonbird 02-29-04 11:08 PM

Good show. Billy Crystal did a good job. Congrats to LOTR and
to all the winners.

Night everybody!

fnordboy 02-29-04 11:09 PM

Nice move to slam your old movies Peter

-rolleyes-

chanster 02-29-04 11:09 PM

Rings sweep just shows how weak the competition was this year.

Sad to see Murray not win.

Jackskeleton 02-29-04 11:09 PM

The reason the first two didn't win is because of the oscar menatlity to delay an award. if it's known that next year they will have a chance, they give it to them the following year. Why waste a vote on something that has a shot the next year?

Kal-El 02-29-04 11:10 PM

They should just get Billy Crystal to do this every year.

Agreed!

Let's check the score...

Not too bad. I went against the odds with Aghdashloo, and this wasn't the year to do that as the favorites cleaned up.

KSC2-303 02-29-04 11:14 PM

Man, what bullsh*t.

I'd say LotR deserved maybe half of those awards. I knew it was a complete farce when it won best editing.

How could a movie where everyone universally agrees it's riddled with false endings that go on 20 minutes longer than it should?

Sean Penn winning best actor was a disappointment, being the self-righteous "I know better than you" prick that he is. His performance was great, but was second to Murray. Considering that Murray deserved it more for past AND present performances pissed me off when Penn won.

And the LotR sweep...well, if LotR was so frickin' great, how come it didn't sweep for the prior two movies?

I'm chalking it up to lack of competition and complacency.

sinister 02-29-04 11:16 PM

replace lost in translation with last samurai cause it wasn't that good.
