The One and only Oscar Thread! Predictions/Thoughts?

Well I just got done filling out my Oscar predictions at www.oscar.com and thought I'd start a thread on it.

Its the big night...whats gonna happen? :)

I'm predicting RotK will take a few:

Best picture
Best director

Pulling for Watanabe in the Supporting Actor category...and Charlize Theron in Best Actress.

Opinions?

RyoHazuki 02-29-04 05:36 PM

My thought is that there hasnt been one truly great film nominated for best picture since 1999.

FiveO 02-29-04 05:37 PM

Ok.

Any thoughts about tonights nominees for best picture?

Wanntambe is an extreme long shot imo. Robbins for supporting actor. I do know one thing, if Charlize loses best actress, Ebert will denounce the acadamy. (he was quoted by saying that Charlize has one of the greatest screen performances of all time)

I've read that on Theron and couldn't agree more with him. I saw Monster and while I wasn't in awe of the film itself, I was mesmerized by Theron's performance.

I studied serial killers during my undergrad degree and knew a bit about Wournos before I saw this.

I'd agree on Wantanabe being a longshot...but here's hoping for the longshots :)

The locks are def.:

LOTR: Best picture
Peter Jackson: Director
Charlize: Actress
Renee: Supp. actress
Robbins: Supp. actor
Finding Nemo: Animation
Sophia: Original Screenplay

It's close for Actor between penn and murray, but my money is that Murray will take it. Over all he has won more awards then penn on the road to Oscar.

Damn good predictions....

Hopefully they'll be true thats what I guessed at www.oscar.com

Supreme Sean 02-29-04 06:09 PM

Best Picture : LOTR : Return Of The Toy Commercial ( Mystic River will be robbed )
Best Director : Jackson
Best Actor : Penn ( Deservedly )
Best Actress : Theron
Best Supp. Actor : Robbins ( Watanabe is my favorite, though )
Best Supp. Actress : Zellweger

FiveO 02-29-04 06:13 PM

Still like to see Watanabe get it though...

Darn close "race"....

I saw MR and really enjoyed Robbins performance.

Rypro 525 02-29-04 06:16 PM

what are the chances that the woman from house of sand and fog will get supporting? and does city of god stand a chance of winning anything?

wmansir 02-29-04 06:25 PM

I was going to jump into the Oscar.com fun, but the registration was too daunting, they practically wanted my SSN. So I'll just post my predictions here.

Best Picture: LOTR:ROTK

Best Director: Peter Jackson

Best Actor: Sean Penn

Best Actress: Charlize Theron

Best Supporting Actor: Tim Robbins

Best Supporting Actress: Shohreh Aghdashloo

Best Screenplay (adapted): LOTR:ROTK

Best Screenplay (original): Lost in Translation

Most of these are just based who has heat, since the only major contenders I have seen are ROTK and LiT, and PotC of course. But the academy is more about clout and popularity than talent and achievement, so it doesn't really matter.

FiveO 02-29-04 07:30 PM

 at the opening

FiveO 02-29-04 07:33 PM

sorry....but rotfl at the Michael Moore minute.

FiveO 02-29-04 07:47 PM

And the first awards down...

Tim Robbins....Mystic River.

Good call...but I would have taken Watanabe... :)

Jackskeleton 02-29-04 07:50 PM

That's one lock out of the way. now lets get to the other closer races.

movielib 02-29-04 07:53 PM

 Robbins deserved it. He's always been underrated as an actor.

Very nice speech without political crap.

silentbob007 02-29-04 07:53 PM

I was hoping for Watanabe, but oh well. At least Robbins kept it short.
