It never even occurred to me before but if RoTK wins Song and Adapted Screenplay it could tie the record for the most Oscars ever (11) because it has a lock on Director and Picture!

What if ROTK turned out to be not worthy of Best Picture (as I and some others feel), then they have passed up honoring more deserving pictures in favor of giving the award to a lesser one just because they wanted to honor those first two. Just vote for the films and performers up this year and leave it at that.
The other way could paint them in a corner too ... considering if FotR won for best picture then turned out incredibly weak compared to another.

Anyway, you are right that it should be the best performance/ piece of the year, but we are talking about human voters here.

man, what I would'nt give to see Spinal Tap up there.

Don't know if this is fair. I own all three soundtracks and there's
a clear progresion of the music, and many new themes in each.

Hell! Michael McKean was right behind Guest! Is Harry Shear in the audience?

badger1997 02-29-04 10:06 PM

The song from Triplets of Belleville is still my favorite song from any movie this year. Really no interest in seeing the film, not my cup of tea really, but from the time I saw the trailer with the song in it, I couldn't get it out of my head. Way better than anything else nominated.

The song from A Mighty Wind is a nice nod to the movie, but the song by itself really isn't anything special in my opinion.

Wait a minute. My hearing just went wacky. Did I hear Will Ferrell and Jack Black mentioned during an Oscar telecast? Wow. This should be good. :)

I certainly agree. Aside from The Fellowship theme, there are many changes in each. However, last year Two Towers was not eligable for the score award. I suppose there was enough complaints to allow Shore in this time around.

As for a RINGS sweep. I am a bit leary on the screenplay award but, the way the night is going, a sweep seems to be what we are going to get.

Quick question about the best picture nom dvd's...

Which will be the next on dvd? Master and Commander?

jasonbird 02-29-04 10:11 PM

Peolpe laughed when Will said 'Hello'

ViewAskewbian 02-29-04 10:12 PM

 That was GREAT!!!!

SunMonkey 02-29-04 10:12 PM

 Will and Jack

jasonbird 02-29-04 10:13 PM

By the way, not a bad idea to have Farrell host.

Jason

silentbob007 02-29-04 10:13 PM

and Will and Jack prove that they would win the award because no one really cares about the others ....

badger1997 02-29-04 10:14 PM

Music and lyric...by *hushed wonder* Sting!

Even had Jack cracking up. Too bad ROTK won for that one too. I personally had thought just about any of the other songs were better, but that's just me.

jasonbird 02-29-04 10:19 PM

How many has LOTR won so far? 7?

ViewAskewbian 02-29-04 10:20 PM

Alright Canadian cinema!!!!

It just occured to me, though, how our films in the US are Foreign yet here, in Canada, when we want to go and see, say, Spiderman we don't say "Hey, you wanna go see that US Foreign flick?"

Do you think that this will boost the box office for LOTR, or do you
think that since it's a trilogy, the people that want to see it have
already seen it?

ViewAskewbian 02-29-04 10:27 PM

That's it, folks, we have a SWEEP!!!!

ClarkKentKY 02-29-04 10:28 PM

I just want to go ahead and Predict:

-Johnny Depp
-Peter Jackson
-Return of the King

If Lost in Translation wins any of those, I'm done with the Oscars forever. Worst movie I saw from last year.

Yes, it's going to be 11 for 11 and tied for the most Oscars ever! What a great night!

Depp was great in POTC but, let's be honest, he has done many other films that were better acted. This award is either Penn's or Bill's.

ViewAskewbian 02-29-04 10:31 PM

YEAH!!!

What a cheer when that was announced!

Probably, and I get to go to bed early. Just getting way too boring and predictable for me with ROTK winning everything. :(

Hopefully by going to be early I will miss a Lost in Translation suprise win. :)

ClarkKentKY, you sure that isn't hyperbole? If it isn't you must have seen no stinkers this year. While i can see how Lost in Translation ain't everybody's cup of tea, did you not see things like Anger Management, Bad Boys II and several other real stinkers (at least in my opinion) this year?
