Blasphemy!!! :jawdrop:

Everyone's entitled to their two, though.

I just watched The Color Purple again last night. It's amazing how much work Opera has had done. Or is that natural change? :p

I know it's an unpopular opinion around here (kinda strange when you consider how many people get pissed over the Academy supposedly giving "make up" awards for when they have supposedly passed over that actor in the past), but ROTK should be judged on its own merits and not the other movies. After all, it is nominated, not all three as a whole. They were already up and had their chance.

silentbob007 02-29-04 09:38 PM

cue the music on the Chernobyl chick ....

But you see, this is more of an honor for the entire LOTR trilogy.

Lost In Translation. Best Film of the Year in my humble opinion.

Meh, to each his own. I thought Lost was just okay myself.

I'd understand if RotK lost best picture, but there is no way PJ should lose for best director ... he deserves it for the ambition and scope of the project.

Yes, I could agree with that.

ViewAskewbian 02-29-04 09:43 PM

A political speach in the documentary Catagory should be a yearly tradition. :p Nobody booed him, though.

Scot1458 02-29-04 09:44 PM

Well that dude had nothing on Michael Moore.

I disagree, but I will agree that this is what most voters are doing.

Jackskeleton 02-29-04 09:48 PM

That's what the voters always do. if the film has a chance to win the following year they go for the final chance. That's the main reason it hasn't won the last two years.

ViewAskewbian 02-29-04 09:50 PM

Humm, like Hope and Hep, I think Peck deserved an extended tribute...but that's just me.

FiveO 02-29-04 09:50 PM

Sorry...OT...but:

rotfl at the AE Tiger Woods commercial...

Scot1458 02-29-04 09:51 PM

doesn't anybody find it ironic how they applauded the Bush bash, yet they give applause to Hitler's propogandist?

I agree.

Also, looks like Jonathan Brandis was forgotten.

Skorp 02-29-04 09:52 PM

If they didn't award FOTR or TTT because they were waiting for ROTK, then a "cumulative" award is more than justified.

silentbob007 02-29-04 09:53 PM

shhhhhh everyone .... Phil Collins

;)

If you'd actually listened you would've noticed the aplause suddenly became very t entative and then died out completely once people realized who they were applauding.

 for the Bush bashing i might add. Thank god we live in a free country.

jasonbird 02-29-04 09:54 PM

Clean sweep by LOTR?

Jason

ViewAskewbian 02-29-04 09:55 PM

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't Shore not eligable for the Award under new Oscar rules? (Hence why he was not nominated for the Two Towers)

jasonbird 02-29-04 09:56 PM

Whats the new rule?

I didn't hear any lapse, but my surround isn't on, so I'll take your word for it.

As for bashing Bush, you bet I'm glad we live in a free country. I just believe in balance.

And damn it! Phil Collins is on the show...and I was just listening to THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY on the way home today! Man could he drum in his day!

Not only do I feel that's a bad way to do it, because it is supposed to be about the film nominated this year and not any others, but it also paints them in a corner. What if ROTK turned out to be not worthy of Best Picture (as I and some others feel), then they have passed up honoring more deserving pictures in favor of giving the award to a lesser one just because they wanted to honor those first two. Just vote for the films and performers up this year and leave it at that.

silentbob007 02-29-04 09:58 PM

and RotK for film editing ... guess the academy didn't see the ending, eh? ;)
