I had some faith in this, until I listened to Stern interview him a couple weeks ago. What a ****ing moron.

The robot alien looks like the original Alien from '79. I though someone said they were going with the alien design from "Resurrection"?

With the direction the Aliens movies were going, meaning they didnt know what to do, I say this could be a good attempt to revive the dead franchises. Me, I love both characters so I'll be first in line in seeing them in whatever form it comes in, but I do hope its more than just the initial coolness of seeing them onscreen.

Originally posted by Rivero It's Aliens vs. Predator. Aliens vs. Predator......that is not a movie....it's a f****** video game, based on a thin premise concocted for a lousy graphic novel that actually represents the nadir of Chris Claremont's comic-book career. Directed by the maker of such disposable crap as Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat, and Soldier. An insult to the very memory of Ridley Scott's original science-fiction classic. I can't see how anyone over the age of 14 could have much interest in this. Hopefully, like the useless Dawn of the Dead remake, it'll be a blip on the radar.....have one good weekend then disappear from moviegoers' memories forever. Now, you don't have to like the director or the premise or anything for that matter. But what you've done here is basically say that everyone that is interested in this film has a mental capacity beneath that of a 14 year old. That's painting with a broad brush and amounts to little more than a widespread personal attack. Behavior like this isn't going to win you any friends and most people are gonna see you as a troll. Maybe you didn't mean it in such a mean spirited way as it came off and I'm just reading into things... but this is a thread about a new featurette, not a thread about how much this movie that's not even out yet sucks and how stupid the people are who want to see it. |
Word, Trigger.

It takes a real prick to actually get me to agree with trigger.. But I agree with trigger on this. I have my doubts, but I'm going to wait till seeing more of the film before making the "it sucks" comments.

Yeah . . . this is one movie that I am truely torn on how I feel about it. I really liked the originals, so I have a pretty high set bar for the new one. However, I have been pleasently surprised, so far, by the direction that Anderson is taking on this to make it his own. For example, I really like the idea of the Predator "clan" with each hunter having it's own personalized characteristics.
I gues I'll just see where it goes and goes and hope for the best. :D |
I would concur with you all, but as I said in my original post which at least one person failed to read completely (seantn), *based on the materials at hand* I'm not terribly excited. Or, at least my excitement is lessened.
Animatronics, yeah, yeah, whatever. The CGI aliens from Resurrection were fine. Either way, if done well, will look fine, IMO. Predator clans. Super, that's the way they're presented in the comics. As a hunting party. Nothing monumental, but glad that they're using that angle for the move. Kudos. However, I'm skeptical of them presenting the predators as some kind of gods to ancient people. And using Antarctica as the setting. And the idea of it being a small science crew with some aliens and predators battling it out. Hopefully I'm misinterpreting the materials at hand. I would love to be ass wrong on this. Mortal Kombat was fairly crude and simple, but pretty enjoyable. Resident Evil is another genre that I love (the video game AND zombies). I found it to lack in many areas, but still enjoyed it quite a bit. Hopefully AvP will be even better than those two and even more enjoyable. I would like for nothing less. I'll watch the film with an open mind... but, as I've said, as of this moment, my expectations are down. |

And, yes, Paul Anderson isn't the greatest director in the world. On the other hand, I never understood the sheer level of vitriol leveled at him. Sure, he does schlock, but he does it well. As for the Aliens vs. Predator graphic novel, I think it's fantastic. I've had it for years and I wish they were using it as the basis for the plot. It's a real outstanding piece of comic writing. |
I think Paul Anderson has the unfortunate circumstance of having a similar name to Paul THomas Anderson and his farts dont stink according to alot of film geeks , AICN started alot of this bashing when Knowles had a hard on for SOldier and he think s Anderson f'ed up the project, since then all his trolls bash away at PA.

Like many others, I'm torn about this. "Alien" and "Aliens" are two of my all-time favorite films. I can't even count how many times I've seen them. I think "Alien" is one of the most beautifully designed and shot movies in cinema history, and "Aliens" is the definition of "rollercoaster action". I love love love both of them.
I was disappointed in the 3rd and 4th films, but I still found things to like about them. But the idea of AvP just left me cold. I didn't like the comics, and I didn't see any way that an interesting and rewarding picture could be drawn from the premise. BUT...there's this part of me that really wants this to be a good movie. It doesn't have to be great. Just a solid, entertaining, spooky, exciting scifi-action flick. And I think Anderson may be able to deliver it. I'm not a huge fan of his. I actively disliked "Mortal Kombat", hated "Soldier". But on the other hand I liked MOST of "Event Horizon", and really enjoyed "Resident Evil". So, I'm actually, for once, going to try to keep an open mind and walk into the movie with expectations firmly in the middle. Not hating it before it has a chance to charm me, but not building it up so much that it could never meet my hopes. I want it to be good. Practical effects instead of CGI are a good decision. Best of luck to the makers of this flick. I want it to be good. Pretty please. |

There is a third featurette, I'm not sure when it was released or how different it is from the second because I haven't seen #2.

New Aliens vs Predator trailer!
|
yup
|
I wasn't impressed...although at least it looks like they took some care making the effects look good, so thumbs up on that end. I'll probably still check it out, since I'm a huge ALIEN fan.
|
Regardless of how much shit talk I do about this film, I will still see it first day, if not sooner.
Predator sound effects always always ALWAYS makes me go into happy mode. |
:jawdrop:
These guys definitely know how to make a trailer. I'm so seeing this. |
I'm excited for AvP. I'm not going in with any expectations. All I want is for it not to suck. Trailer is pretty tight though.
|
I think it looks cool, but maybe too much CGI.
