I finally had some free time so I opened up my series 5 set.

I was part of the way through episode 4 and it occurred to me that I don't think this show has ever entirely gelled. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy it but somehow I don't think all of the parts have come together are once.

For example, I felt like we were 95% there, but then
Spoiler:
along comes the new blonde lady
. Hopefully that gets better with time!

Then if we ignore that, there was the new development
Spoiler:
that Ruth left
. Very similar to an episode from the past and very obvious which one.

I'm curious to see where they go with Adam and the rest of the gang. I hope they don't go with a really bad storyline with regard to the nanny, but somehow I expect that to turn out very cliche.

Oh, and I almost forgot about the big
Spoiler:
kill off in the 2 part premier
. That was along the same lines of what we first saw back in episode 2. The very edgy aspect that keeps this show real and keeps you on your toes!

I also was impressed to see where they went with "the other group". I'll assume they did it on purpose, but there were hints of that a few seasons back. At the time I thought they had dropped it, but it turns out there were events in motion behind the scenes. Very glad to see that storyline follwed through with. Even after the 2 part opener there have been hints of that plot in particular not being concluded.

Re: MI-5 : Series 1

Didn't want to start a new thread but for those who haven't seen it, or those who want to watch again, I was watching PBS last night and they are going to start running the series from the beginning next week. In Chicago it's will be on Thursday nights at 9:00 but it will probably vary by location.

Re: MI-5 : Series 1

It's a solid show. I recently purchased the DVD sets from Amazon.co.uk (original name Spooks) since I have a regionless DVD player. Each set was about 10 pounds.

Okay has anybody else seen this show MI:5? *U.K. readers in particular*

First of all, I'll start by saying it is not this show:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spooks

I saw the show in around 1999, 3 years before that, and it was only one episode but it was awesome: Synopsis ahead:

There was a TV station that was hosting a live interview with some political figure. What happened was that the studio got stormed by some organization, who had an issue with the political figure. Now, the leader went up to the host of the show, and said "You and your crew can go, we have no quarrel with you." Then they proceeded to continue the TV broadcast, but with the new guys in charge.

They started providing claims and evidence as to the Political dude's past actions, that he was responsible for war crimes, and that he had used one of the women who was with the people who took over, as a sex slave. She said that she carved his initials onto her chest. There was a bunch of this grilling the dude on live TV, and I guess MI 5 showed up or something...IIRC they got arrested, but the political figure was ruined at the end.

What happened was that the main MI 5 guy was there, and then the woman actually showed her the chest with the initials. Then the political figure started saying "No, she carved that herself!" Then the MI 5 guy said to the dude, "Get out of my sight", pretty much implying that he had been guilty of these crimes.

That was the only ep I saw, and I was interested. But I've never found any information on it since then.

It is the same show as Spooks, renamed to MI-5 for the US.

Yep - and a pretty awesome show. One thing I really liked was that no character was really "safe" on it. You'd be watching and suddenly boom a major character could die!

It's ironic, but that’s exactly why I don’t watch the show any more.

I watched the first few seasons and they killed off all my favorite characters.

The show was no longer entertaining.

Except I said I saw this episode in 1999. I specifically remember in 2002 that there was this new show called "MI:5" and was wondering what happened to this older show I saw.

The BBC finished showing the latest season a few weeks ago. I have the last 2 shows sitting on my DVR waiting for abit of spare time.
This season has been great and has had some great twists.
I remember watching the first episode and having a huge surprise in that and I just thought that all bets are off and no-one is safe.

CI5 : The New Professionals

It was a remake of the '70's series "The Professionals", which had a fictional domestic crime agency "CI5".

Why did they change the title for American television?

In America, "Spooks" is slang, like the N-word, in some circles.

Spooks (MI-5) BBC series

Just started watching this. On Season 2 right now. An excellent series. The neurotoxin episode was awesome.

People who liked "In plain sight" might like this series. IMHO Spooks is way better. More serious. More suspenseful. One major team member brutally killed. No Brandy

Available on Netflix.

Re: Spooks (MI-5) BBC series

Love this series. I love when a show changes up the core cast/changes the status quo. This show does it quite often.

I'm halfway through Season 9 then onto the final season. I believe they're doing a movie as well (although it'll only be released on DVD here)

This, big time. Peter Firth kicks ass in this show. And I loved the fact that no one was protected, no one was safe from being snuffed out, as I would imagine how it would really be being in MI-5. And I do prefer Spooks as the original show name, rather than MI-5.

Based on the run times of about 59 minutes, they look to be uncut.
