Alien 5 (D: Blomkamp) S: Weaver
Today's Dark Horizons has a scoop that is originally from BBC1, and it's good news to those who've been hoping something can be done to salvage the ALIEN film franchise. According to Horizons source, ALIENS writer/director James Cameron is still contemplating breathing life into a fifth ALIEN film.
"We're looking at doing another one," Cameron is quoted as saying to the BBC. "Something similiar to what we did with ALIENS. A bunch of great characters, and of course Sigourney. I've even discussed the possibility of putting him [Arnold Schwarzenegger] into the ALIEN movie." Cameron further cemented his interest in returning to deep space by also saying that he wasn't a fan of David Fincher's ALIEN 3. "I couldn't stand ALIEN 3 - how they could just go in there and kill off all these great characters we introduced in aliens, and the correlation between mother and daughter. It stunk, but hopefully I'll get a chance to rectify all that," said the TITANIC director. And what did Cameron think of TERMINATOR 3, Jonathan Mostow's follow-up to T2? "In one word : Great. There was a small part of me that hoped it wasn't good - but another part of me hope'd it succeeded. And it did." Cameron also talked about what he might have done if he had directed T3, which you can read by checking Dark Horizons. |
Terminator vers Alien. Hmmm, that could be an interesting movie.
I would rather see a Batman vers Alien movie. |
If it were any other director I would just roll my eyes and not even bother to post. Even though I don't think Cameron is a movie god, he is a good director and has a knack for making a great film out of a seemingly preposterous idea (Piranha 2 excluded :)). I hope he follows through (which he doesn't have a good track record of doing).
We'll see if this actually happens. Odds are against, I'd say. |
Arnold would over shadow Sigourney in a series where she is suppose to be the big hero.
bad idea... unless you are making a Alien VS terminator.. which woulc never be logical with the characters. :p |

Arnold could be one of those things like Ash or Bishop...
|
I'd like to see an Alien movie that picked up where Aliens left off as if 3 and 4 never happened. We need a new Newt.
|
Surprised to hear Cameron's comments on Terminator 3. . .I hope he goes for Alien 5. Not sure about Arnold's potential presence in that movie, but regardless I know it will be good as long as Cameron's on it.
|
I thought Ridley Scott was going to direct ALIEN 5, if anyone?
|
This would be really good if done correctly(Rated R, lots of death and violence).
|
and they could have another Bishop unit, and it would really blur the lines between terminator and aliens since Lance Henriksen was in both

Why bother with Weaver and Arnie? The movie is about the aliens and how people deal with them, not just Ripley...
|
I'd buy a ticket
|
It could be really good with all those people involved.
|
If Arnold returns as Dutch from Predator, I'll crap my pants.
|
Cameron has never seemed to like the Alien vs Predator idea, and for that matter Alien vs Terminator so I doubt he has a crossover in mind. If any director knows how to use Ahnold, it's Cameron so...more power to him. I'd love to see this on screen. I doubt Cameron would make Sigourney play second banana to Ahnold if this did come about. Instead...I think we'd have too behemoths...Ripley and Ahnold...and I think Cameron is more than capable of making something like that work. Look at Aliens...he made Sigourney one tough woman, I don't think he'd slight her.

"You're all ugly MuthaF***kas!"
|
All I know is I hope they make one, because I'm going to need something to replace Alien 4 w/ in the upcoming box set ;)
|
Early drafts of Aliens had a Cyberdyne systems logo on Bishop or "Made by Cyberdyne" but they dropped that just so us fanboys wouldn't speculate....if anything Arnold would come in as a Marine or something.
|
Cameron has said that the Alien vs Predator movie is a horrible idea and will basically be the nail in the coffin for both franchises. With Paul Anderson at the helm I tend to agree. It looks to be a done deal though. The A vs P movie is set to begin shooting in October.
|
Im suprised about his comments about T3 as well. Sounds like hes not so much of a dick as ive heard.
|
So we have Arnold in Alien 5, huh?
Now I've got an idea! Rocky VI Rocky Balboa vs. Arnold Schwarzenegger ;) Rambo IV John Rambo vs. Conan ;)  |
Hopefully this will be the film that finally gives Gary Coleman and Webster their chance to make cameos of munchkin aliens.
|
Perhaps this will get Cameron off of his "Titanic" fixation.
|
Cameron helming the "Alien" franchise again? Where do i buy tickets??

Sorry James, I liked Fincher's vision a hell of a lot better than yours, even if there were problems with the execution.
|
I'd be skeptical of Arnold in an Alien movie. His range is not so good. If he just played a marine, I doubt he would be better than Hicks was in Aliens.
But Cameron has surprised me before. |
Fantastic rumor - hope it holds true.

I doubt this will ever happen. Sigourney Weaver AND Arnold Schwarzenegger = $50+ million. That's without everything else. This movie would be too expensive to make.
|

I agree with the person who said they'd like to see "Alien 3" and "Alien Resurrection" wiped out like they never happened. Maybe they could just be one long nightmare while Ripley, Newt, Hicks, and Bishop were in hypersleep on their way back to Earth. Going back to what I said above about characters, these were great characters that didn't deserve to be unceremoniously killed off during the opening credits of "Alien 3" (or by suicide in Ripley's case). |
|
It's got the potentiial of making their salaries back in the first weekend.
I wonder if the hype would be too high for this film to be received well...? Sigourney too old? Haven't seen her for awhile. And how would James get around 3 and four? Time warp? Back to when the ship left the planet at the end of two? Hmmm... For the record, I enjoyed all of the Aliens films. 2 is the best..IMHO |

I got all excited, until I read it was just another rumor. :(
Nice to see that Cameron enjoyed T3 though, maybe that means he'll consider producing or writing T4. :) Also, I have a feeling that if James Cameron came to Fox and said he wanted to make another Aliens movie that disregarded parts 4 and 5 starring Arnold Shcwarzenegger and Sigourney Weaver, there wouldn't even be a beat before the execs said yes. |
It's not gonna happen.
He was just thinking/brainstroming out loud. At least that's how I read it. |
Have to disagree. Other than the alien, Ripley is the only character that's been in all the films. Her presence adds continuity, and I think films are better when they're character driven. Otherwise, they'd just be about effects and costumes. She died and was brought back as a friggin clone. That somehow made the fourth installment better? Bleh... |
Yeah! MAJOR SPOILERS!!
Ripley's asleep in the cryo-chamber and then you find out the events of 3 and 4 were all a dream because her sleep was perpetuated by a lengthened cryogenic stasis caused by none other than the nefarious...MR. FREEZE!!! When she wakes up, freed by Batman, you find out that the Aliens have landed in Gotham, and teamed up with Arnie, but he's out to double cross them. Then, George Clooney and Sigourney show up just before the aliens incubate in that bumbling sheriff of sorts, Commissioner Gordon, all hell breaks loose and it's a four-way free for all where we see all those crossover battles we've DREAMED of. This movie will make 500 million EASY!!! |
